have not long bought a gorgeouse selle francais, but dont seem to no anyone that has this breed, have been told he's quite "old fashioned looking" so if anyone else has a good old frenchy please share pics, and there personality so i can comepare :)

I think they come in a lot of shapes and sizes tbh... Mine looks like a thoroughbred but jumps like a warmblood, and is about the bravest and most intelligent horse I have ever had the pleasure of owning (even if it does make her quite naughty and times!!)

Haven't got a pure-bred, but our boy is 3/4 Selle Francais. He has a lovely temperament, has a great jump, and is happy to turn a hoof to everything, doing dressage, showjumping, combined training, hunting, hacking, dressage, hunter trials, Pony Club rallies and camp!

He is the ginger with white face in my sig!

Exactly the same as mine! Hes very talented and intelligent, lovely horse (snowy - sure there is lots of old pics of him on my page and a few in my posts) :)

This is the Selle Francais sire of my new filly.

My mare is a Selle Francais by Valesco (Grade A Showjumper).
Photos can be found on Pelion Stud's website. He's an old boy now but a good example of the breed.

I had a SF chestnut mare (sorry no pics!) and she looked like a TB cross WB- she was very pretty! She had a lovely temp but I bought her when she was in her late teens and I think she had had a very troubled and tough life as a competition horse over in France. I also found that not many people had heard/knew much of the breed. From my personal experience I would say my mare was quite TB like, she was very sharp and intelligent and was very good at her job. I think they used to be a very popular breed for SJ?? Hope you get on well with yours! :)

Selle Francais come in all shapes and sizes. It's a French Warmblood if you want to think of it in terms of how the other countries describe their horses. Up until very recently the French Haras Nationaux (state studs) would take anything as long as it jumped, so some can be quite unattractive and have temperaments that only the professionals will deal with. Happily however things are changing and the state studs are paying more attention to temperamant and on the nationsal stud website the stallions are graded for performance and temperament now.

We ahve several here. Most are really sweet natured but we ahve one extremely talented mare that is a little bit 'special' as they say over here.

My SFx mare is by Pouchka 111 a very well known SJ SF stallion.

She is stunning to look at, as smart as they come, a talented SJ and a little Mmmmmmm, how shall I say.......quirky.

And I love her to bits!!!!!

That's me SF mare, retired as an embryo transfer mare now at Twemlows.

She was an awesome hunter in her day.

I have an SF, hes very sweet natured and intelligent. Hes still quite young so can be spooky. Hes strong, fast and an amazing jumper!! Hes a little strong for me but I love him to bits and he loves a good cuddle!!!!

can someone tell me how to post pics onto this thread so that i can post some pics of my boy

You need to open a photobucket account, load them to that then click on the image code and paste into your post, I think it copy's automatically when you click on the image code

We have a half Selle Francais & half Holsteiner gelding, sire is an international show jumper. They have a willingness to learn, are quite bright & have to paces & ability to be schooled in any discipline you would wish to go for. Ours has a lovely jump, is very brave, nothing phases him & we are expecting him to go far. :)

this is my boy, he came to me unschooled like a giraffe, with a slightly uncontrollable jump. after 1 week of me having him he fractured his skull :( amd had to have 2 months off. in this time i got to no him, we got rid of the catching problem and the headshy ness, (hes still afraid of the whip - i think he had a tough upbringing) but he jumps like a stag (pic of him at his first EVER XC AT 13) hes starting to work nicely on the flat, and we have even done some showing (head shot) hes very quirky and can be sharp and silly and nappy, but hes so genuine and a lovely person inside and out.

We have a SF on our yard. He's one of the manager's GP horses in training and, to be honest, I didn't notice any different between Choco and all the other GP horses who are all BWPs - he's more a WB type. I don't know how he is to ride, but he's a gent in his stable! Not so keen on being clipped mind.

he is lovely! more my cup of tea. i do tend to sway towards the more chunkier types!

This is my SF chappie! He is by Dallas Brightspark (who I believe was SJer, pattern forming?)

We do a fair bit of showing, he evented with his previous owner, and a little with us, and has BSJA'ed. He is the perfect gentleman <3

I love him too Minky! He's by Diamant De Semily out of a Ilmeo mare and can jump the moon. To make our YM buy anything other than BWP as a GP horse, they have to be special! I think he's passported as Elixir if I remember rightly.

Haha, thank you [=

Yes, full SF, dad Dallas Birghtspark, mum Flossy. Actually, he might have some TB in him somewhere...

Yeah, very chunky monkey, and very dumb! haha, Brightspark Owen - not the right name for him haha.

He went on loan like 2 weeks ago, so, not for sale! haha.

He's my baby [=

I think heinz 57 is the best way to describe the selle francais breed. They seem to be made up of a bit of everything.
The old fashioned SF is quite common to look at- big head, big ears, quite chunky. However don't let appearances fool you, they jump like stags.
The powers that be in the world of SF are now trying to lighten the breed so you will find a lot of TB, Holsteiner, Oldenburgs etc being crossed with them.
You can't beat the temperament of a true SF, they are generous, honest and just completely loveable!

so so true! although my boy is old fashioned he is very handsome! and yes i totally agree, on the yard he is a true gentleman who loves fuss and is my best friend. but he could jump the moon, he just has this unbelievable scope which is apparently what they used the breed for as everyone has mentioned there jumping abilitys!

Some great comments about their ability to jump which is really pleasing as my new 2 yo was bought for show jumping.
