I have a very classy (in hand county winning) little welsh A who though my dtr rides on lead rein is a bit too perky for her off it. She now wants to progress off lead and as she isn't that confident think we need to find something with barely a pulse!
I really think it would be better all round if we sold pony somewhere he could do a job and have a bit more fun than he does with us. He would probabaly be best suited to doing a bit more than lead rein. He was prof broken and schooled but not done much with us since then other than a bit of pottering around so really needs to go on and have more of a life!
In order to sell him wondering whether just to send him back for more schooling which will obviously cost me quite a bit, or sell him that bit cheaper. Slight concern is if we can't sell him straight away after the schooling livery we end up payng for more schooling and / or the work gradually comes undone as we can't maintain it when he returns.
Money is not the main priortiy - I want him placed in a suitable home where he can have fun. That makes me think I may have to send him away to give him the best chance of a decent home. I don't know of anyone locally small enough to put the work in to him. The person i had used previously moved away.
Any suggestions please - try and sell as is?? or send away for schooling??
Thanks everyone and apologies for the ramble!!

iv had a similar problem with my pony, bought as first pony but too much spark, at the end of last year when i was schooling him and he was away jumping and doing xc we could have sold him for alot of money. he done very little over the winter though and has forgotten all his schooling, he's hard on the leg and needs alot of work. so... i advertised him for less than he was worth and got very little interest, the people who did contact me wanted to pay silly money way under the asking price, i think people thought there was something wrong that i wasnt being honest about!

dont know if that helps any, we've ended up keeping him for me and we're getting another pony on loan!

Could you not loan him out to a PC home for a certain amount of time and then also loan a pulseless pony for your daughter in the meantime.

That way when she progresses to wanting something a bit more sparky you will be able to have him back!!!

Just an idea!!

The trouble with Sec As is they are so small, you're pushed to find a jockey small enough and confident enough, aren't you?
You ideally need a little jockey for the lr classes with an older sister to have some fun on him. Which is what we are currently doing with our spikey shetland. When we looked at selling/loaning him, our DC said, with disarming honesty 'trouble is, the world's full of ponies that are ok on the lr and too sharp off.'
How about sending him for the schooling, and advertising him from the pro yard where he's being schooled?

Thanks MQ + LittleTinker. I have considered loaning him but think dtr would have outgrown him by the time he came back. I have been in limbo over this for about 18 mths / 2 yrs now and really feel I need to 'grasp the nettle'.Plus want to limit the size of our equine collection - I already have something that I put out on loan and something we had on loan which we ended up buying!

Thanks skewbald - agree with what you are saying. He is not sharp but done so little off lead with a tiny jock I couldn't vouch for how safe he would be in all situations. An absolute angel with an older child on but yes there are fewer of those wanting to ride something this size!

We have a small safe pony for sale at the yard if you want some info and pics, PM me
