Hi everyone, earlier this year I bought a project pony, have brought her on and now I have put her up for sale, but as I've been putting up ads I've noticed just how many horses and ponies people are selling for absolutely nothing!

I know I have to make my ad stand out but I can't believe some of the horses/ponies I have seen which people are asking so little money for!

I don't want to give my pony away for hardly anything as I'm wary of people who don't have a clue just looking for something cheap...

Is anyone else finding it difficult to sell at the minute? Maybe I should work on her some more and try to improve her further before selling?

I'm looking at the moment, haven't been looking long and on paper there is so much choice, so for me it's a case of asking questions & visiting and seeing how I feel about the horse when I see/try it. However I am on the most part trying to find one through word of mouth (am using & abusing horsey contacts) as with so many for sale at the moment it would take years for me to wade through ads!
Are you able to try to sell by word of mouth? Riding club, farrier, vet, trainer, other liveries etc might be worth trying?
If you are going to advertise, I find horsemart & HHO easy to look through because of the search filters, I'm not over keen on horsequest as you never know how old the ad is & it's not easy to search a certain criteria.
Advert needs to be eye-catching and honest (this can be done without being negative about said horse!) Good photos really help too, as does the area of the country you are in (you can google landline numbers to identify area code, can't do that with mobiles!)
I would say there does seem to be a lot of green horses about so if you can bring her on a bit & do a bit more it may be worth your time.

the market for selling today is ridiculous, I put mine in the paper as haven't got the time for him, also him being a tb ex-racehorse he needs the facilities and the confidence to go on. had someone out today who felt like they were just making stupid remarks about him. they plonked on him so heavily he coward down poor thing, decided to keep him and move him to a different yard with facilities to try and give him what he needs. I spent over 1000 on his feed, shoes and livery and they try knocking me down from 800 to 200 was disgusted!

I practically had to give away my amazing pony! She should have been 4k but ended up dropping the price after 4 months to 2.5k inc tack!!! Lots of interest then and sold straight away. Its gutting, I bought her for more than that as a green badly schooled 5yr old and sold her age 9 a saintly perfect pc pony. If you are in no hurry then chance your price higher but be prepared to lower it drastically or keep your pony

Pro pics help a lot.

Are you young enough to do pony club? We sold our pony through word of mouth via pc. (instructor at pony club recommended him to another member)

Thanks everyone, no not young enough for pony club unfortunately! But I will ask farriers to keep an eye out for anyone, I suppose word of mouth is probably the best way as all the sites are just overrun!

Ella can't believe you had to sell yours for less than you bought her for! It's crazy!

Think I will work on her some more, get some good pics (pro ones good idea ta), and then maybe advertise her at a higher price to see if I can aim her at the right people, I've put her up for £1500 at the minute but maybe people looking more seriously would be looking in a higher price bracket!?
