Im trying to sell one of my mares and it seems like theres no market for horses these days !!

Does anybody else find it that way ? Nobody seems to be looking to buy them !
The worst is all the timewasters !! There must be millions of them :-O

There's always a market for good horses. We've just sold 3 in 2 weeks, all around 5k all rounder types.

What kind of horse is it and how is your advert worded etc? What about the photos you're using?

Wow thats very good !! :-)
Shes a 5yr old purebred ID
Im not too sure how to describe what wording ive done ? The first photo is of her plaited up at a show and looking well, the other is her jumping on the lunge and clearing the jump good, and the third is of her being ridden in the arena .
Thanks in advance if you can help me in any way :-)

Have you advertised on the ID website?

I'm having the opposite problem, I'm trying to buy and can't find what I'm after!! My problem seems to be size as I need 16.2+ as I'm tall and these all seem to be polished competition types with price tag to match or other people's cast off's with one issue/ injury or another. Bog standard rc types in that size are nowhere to be found in the south at least.

Really ? Mine is 16.2/3hh . Just curious as to whats your price range ?

Yup, sorry not a pure ID as I really want something to do some dressage, ( well try anyway) and not quite so young either as I don't have the skill for a young one and I'm too crumbly!!!

It is very difficult at the moment. I have sold a couple of really lovely genuine types recently, but I priced them below what I perceived the market value to be. Even then, I was not inundated with calls! I see some hopelessly overpriced horses in adverts, and I think other sellers seeing these may think the market is better than it actually is.

Pm me a link to her ad if you want, wording and good photos make all the difference I think.

I'm currently looking for a new horse and just cant find anything that's young enough to be fun for the next 10 years + without a stupidly big price tag. I don't want a top competition prospect just something safe with a bit of a jump on them but there is nothing out there. Lots of good sounding ones turn out to be nothing like the add describes so i find I'm only calling the ones now who don't just have a standard good to box, shoe, clip advert as i feel less is being hidden if the owner has gone to some effort to describe the horse honestly and in detail.

I note you are in Ireland so probably have a smaller market than you would have in other areas of the UK to start with.

With regard to the time wasters are these people calling up and then deciding not to come and view the horse or are they people coming to view the horse and then not buying.

If people are coming to view your horse but then not being interested then perhaps your advert is not quite right so the people are ending up disappointed. I think in this financial climate there are not going to be many people wasting petrol and time going to view horses that they have no intention of buying.

Agreed. I need some details, especially as I need an easy non spooky type not easily offended by my riding. Ads for this size tend to just state competition record or prospects with no idea of how they are day to day. I think the assumption is that anyone looking for a bigger horse is a very experienced and accomplished rider.

Thats the problem with most horses these days - the price tag. Most are priced at silly high prices and the horse is barely backed !!

They are calling an emailing with loads of interest and asking loads of questions and say they will come to see her and never come!

If you are getting lots of interest that would suggest the advert is appealing, so maybe it's the phone call / answers to the questions?? Might you be telling them something inadvertently they don't like the sound of? I mean just a misunderstanding like "hasn't done much this year due to my work" ( very reasonable) but added to some other unrelated comment is enough to put them off?
