Has anyone sold a saddle to or via an online saddlery? Obviously I know I'll get less than selling it myself but do you feel you got a good price from them? I any one partiular company better than the others? I've looked at Saddles Direct, The Saddle Bank and Saddle Shack, any others I should try?

Sheepham were really helpful and gave me a very good price.
I ended up getting an offer locally of only £25 less though so ended up takin fb that as an easier option but I’d definitely try them again

I haven't but I think somebody I know might have done so I can ask them. I have sold a saddle through Huw, he got me a decent price which we agreed in advance and he took either 10 or 15% commission, I can't remember now. He sold it pretty quickly too, although I guess that depends on the saddle and how sought after it it. I don't use him as a saddler but would use him to sell one for me again.

That's handy to know. Again, I wouldn't use him to buy a saddle but selling is a different thing. I was a bit concerned about him as he's had my friend's saddle for about 6 years. It is an odd size but I can't imagine tht nobody has wanted it in 6 years. I think he's forgotten he's got it! Mine's a decent make and a very popular size so I don't think it would be a problem with mine.

Thanks, I've given them a try - although they have one on there exactly the same as mine for about £100 less than I was hoping for (and another £200 more!) so I don't know about the price any more. Maybe they're commission sales and that's what the sellers are happy with.

Yes I think that could be a bit of a worry as he can be a bit inconsistent! Hopefully as you say though if yours is one that would be easy for him to sell then you should be OK. He did forget to phone me to tell me he'd sold it but I phoned a few weeks after I left it with him and he said it had gone and there was no problem getting the cash then when I went to the shop. I think maybe if you did go with him you'd just have to keep on top of him a bit and phone him now and then to see how he's getting on.

Sheepham sold my saddle quickly & hassle free.
I imagine buyers check all those sights, so you stand equal chance of selling with any of them.
Way less hassle than marketplace, no endless stupid questions & insulting offers. You just send off your saddle & sit back waiting for the cash 🙂

I have one with Sheepham currently (hoping it sells soon). They're very easy to work with and I'm happy with the (eventual) amount I'll receive.

I've had replies from a few of them. Apparently my saddle is older than I thought. Sheepham will take it only on commission and have given me quite a big price range - the top end would be great, the lower end is about what I expected but their commission rate is very high and I'd end up with a fair bit less. I suspect it'll be somewhere in the middle when they see it.

Saddles Direct will buy it directly but have offered me a fairly low price (I expected a low price but not that low) but it wouldn't be loads less than the lower end Sheepham valuation once the commission is taken off.
They have also given me a price for a commission sale but I'm not sure if that's what I'll get when it sells or if that's what they'd sell it for and I get a percentage of that. It's an odd figure, (multiplied by 1.2 it gives a round figure so I think it must be that they' sell it for the round figure and take 20% commission) and it's about £100-200 less than they said I could get for it privately so I think it might be what I'd receive but it's not clear. Annoyingly (in terms of making a decision) it's more than I'd get than the lower end of the Sheepham valuation but less than the top end so it makes a difference.

Does anyone have experience of Saddles Direct please? Any idea if they quote what I'd get or what they'd sell it for on the commission sale? Are they good to deal with? Thanks for all the good reports on Sheepham.

Anyone want an Albion K2 GP 😆

If it's an older saddle why don't you just ebay it or I have sold a few cheaper saddles on preloved and never had any problems.
It’s the older model (so not the Adjusta tree) but it’s not that old and still of a value that makes it worth going through a saddler. It’s also a popular make and size so while that means there’s a market for it it also means there are loads on eBay and that suppresses prices there.
