Selling - does everyone else get morons too?

Feel in my current situation, paying for adverts on well known sites doesn't seem to weed out the numpties.... Have had the same woman email me 3 times on horsemart asking exactly the same questions, when i've already replied to her previous emails. And had at least 2 people arrange viewings and not turn up. Got a viewing lined up for the weekend though through fb so hopefully fingers crossed all goes well. It's a very sad sale, but the way things are going at the moment i'll be glad to see the back of this selling saga.

I feel for you.... I even had a woman turn up with two children who, after trying the pony and liking it, asked if I could put all three of them up so they could have another go the following day! I politely gave them the phone book and suggested a few hotels. Unbelievably, they stayed in a hotel, tried the pony again and bought her. So do persevere, even if they seem bonkers it CAN work out.

My friend advertised her very green just backed 15hh QH gelding and was phoned by a guy wanting to buy 'it' for his 7 year old daughter's birthday. Child had never ridden before and dad had no experience. And the horse was advertised in H&H!!

Why dont you try orsequest, Horse Rader & Horse Gossip (Thats free) and you should get a better set of people enquiring :) my friend 13h SHP is on there at the moment, and not a numpty in site! :D

I used to buy to rehome, no more now though, too many numpties - regardless of what I was advertising, or where! Here's a small selection from the last few before I lost the will...
"Ooh he's big for a 4yo" - advertised as 16.3 and still growing.
"How high can he jump?" - nervous part-backed 15hh Welsh D
"I want one to teach my 7yo to ride" - the above
"Would he suit a trekking centre" - the above
"He's so pretty, do you have more pictures?"
"Will he teach my novice 6ft husband to jump?" - 15.2h lightweight TB been backed 6 months
"He'll never be sound enough to event with a splint - will you take half price?"
"She's not really what I want and far too sharp - will you take half price"
But my favourite "We didn't buy yours because it was too expensive but the one we bought isn't as nice to ride - would you train it for us [for free]?"

People frighten me. I had lady come to look around my stables who has just bought her daughter (with very little riding experience) 2 thoroughbred youngsters to learn on. Then I had a lady come to try a horse for loan, who asked three times if she bucked or bolted... I was like Nooooo! I've advertised her as a novice ride for hacking out alone. I'm not a sadist! Then she told me about other horses she had tried that had just been horrors! I exist in a world of dreamers and liars.

I can't imagine why some people seem to think it would! It doesn't cost anything to read the ads:confused3:.
When I'm horse shopping at look at every site I can think of, including some rather obscure ones. I've actually bought some nice horses from Pre-loved and (dare I say it?) Dragon Driving, s well as the 'better' sites.

Just to make you feel better OP, I've met some morons who've been trying to sell as well. there must be a lot of them about!

I can imagine! I had several when I was looking for a loan. I'm being very honest (possibly too honest?!) and just getting nothing!

Just got to keep trying I suppose, we've only had two people veiw her so far and to their credit both have been honest and said they liked her but found something cheaper/more suitable. I actually turned around to OH and saying I could just get myself down to 8st so I don't have to sell her, not achieveable in a healthy way but I just can't cope with it!

I recently put a lady I knew had been looking for a schoolmaster, sound & fit to do endurance on, in touch with farm down road who is selling their hunter (never been lame, impeccable manners, would love endurance) who is selling their Connie, as daughter has totally outgrown him. They are asking a sensible price, not over the odds, but she seemed to think she'd be able to buy him for peanuts. I think people fail to appreciate that quality will hold a value & believe that if they make a silly offer the buyer will snap their hand off. It comes as a shock when buyer sticks to their guns on what their horse really is worth. This lady is missing out on an ideal mount because she thinks all horses should be bargain basement at the moment. Probably why she's been looking for over a year:rolleyes:

daft isn't it?

I'm aware she is a unknown breeding, little coloured mare but she is so unflapable and unbothered she is going to make a fab PC pony I'm just a stone too heavy to back her myself.

Just going to keep trying :)

Try buying one! When I bought my last mare in February her owner was a joy to deal with. Before I viewed her I wasted months replying to adverts who never got back to me, gave me totally inaccurate information, sent me photos of horses that clearly weren't the horse I was shown on arrival, arranged to meet people who never turned up at their own yards, etc etc. I also had a wanted advert out, very clearly stating what I was looking for, the number of people who contacted me with totally unsuitable animals was unbelievable.

Keep at it, there are genuine buyers out there, you just have to deal with the others too and not get down hearted about it all.

i empathise with you! are there no small jockey's around/relatives/very competant riding school people looking to move forward etc that could help? as a child; although not experienced i would have given my left arm to help people with their horses and ponies, and there are some quite/very competant little-uns out there who's parents are novice and clever enough to not want to buy, maybe an oppertunity like with yours would be a possibility? just a thought op. best of luck with her, whatever the outcome! she looks a lovely little mare :)

I'm with you on the horsey tyrekickers too.

I have two lovely pony cobs to sell at the moment, and it just seems like an endless stream of timewasters. I've had - what a shame she isn't two inches bigger as that's really what I wanted (her height is in the ad, and it's accurate) ) another one after telling me they want her for days then I got told they had no stable (why look for a horse without one) - another came wanting a first youngster and seriously they aren't safe to handle a bombproof schoolmaster let alone a youngster (they were dangerous round horses) - several who made appointments and just never turned up - a few who very clearly just brought the kids out for a nice horsey day out.

It's maddening - two really nice youngsters who just need to find lovely people - I just haven't managed to find them yet!

We get tons of them but the latest one on our last baby for sale - well 2 in fact but one was self admitting so didn't waste any of our time, emailed us to say she didn't agree with our terms and conditions, i.e.we don't want time wasters, on our website so she wasn't going to come and view our horse!!:p :D I have a very smart friesian x TB yearling gelding for sale and a lady came from lancaster - so a 2hr trip up to see said yearling last weekend, she loved him as owned his full brother but had to sell him and despite riding him every week as he's on her livery yard she owns she wanted another and this little fellow is a clone. She said she'd pay deposit last tuesday and pick up this sunday, well tuesday came and went and nothing gave her the benefit of the doubt, she emailed to say last thursday deposit has been sent and she can't wait to pick him up after her hols last weekend - no deposit appeared in the bank and we've emailed, left a voice mail and texted incase her money had gone astray and she had lost her money - no reply to all communication - what is wrong with people - why not just say they had changed their mind instead of faffing about for 2 weeks and leading people on - I've turned away 2 other people in the meantime who have now found other horses????!!!!! - Grrrrrrr!!! Bloody loonies!!!!

People are stupid, ive given up trying to sell my mare after getting a string of Inapropriate people offering half the asking price and one guy after I eventually said I would drop price by 1.5k said it was still too expensive for a horse for his 12yr old daughter despite me stressing in the ad she needs a very experienced handler that is familiar with iberian types, he mythered the life out of me! surley if he was that desperate he would have paid asking price. Why on earth do people bother enquiring about a horse they cant afford and why would they insist they want to travell half way across the country to see a horse whose ad they clearly havnt read!

I'm not being mean but can you put better photos of her stood up/tacked up etc in the ad as its a bit uninspiring as is. No offence intended.

None taken, trying to get OH to come up and having the right weather for decent photos when he does come up is my main issue (although I only have very unflattering pony pad rather than a saddle) but it is something I'm working on.

I was just thinking as well if you could even get someone on her for a couple of weeks it would make her so much more saleable. Borrow a saddle for the pics?

I don't know anyone up here with small enough ponies (or children) to borrow :( I fact I know all of 3 horsey people locally lol. Going to coerce OH over the weekend and at least get some pics of her stood up if nothing else.
