I'm selling my horsebox - have loads of ads on the internet (thanks everyone who suggested places on my previous post!) and have had quite a bit of interest.

I had one lady contact me about it asking if the "horse trailer is still for sale" I said it's a horse lorry rather than a trailer but yes it's still for sale and offered to send her some photos/more details.

Her reply was this:

"Hi, thanks for mailing back, I don't have the chance to come and view it cos am not around for now cos of my wedding preparation, i am buying this for my sister, am currently out of town but i wouldn't mind seeing a few more pictures of it, and I will like to know it present condition and your final asking price. Right now i can only make the payment through paypal, all i will need is your paypal email address to make the payment, and if you dont have a paypal account, its pretty eeasy to set up and it very secured, all you have to do is log on to paypal.co.uk its also the same as me paying you directly. I hope you consider this cos i really dont want to miss this deal. i have a pick up agent who will come for the pick up after payment have been made. Thanks for understanding.many thanks. Byron"

So.... what do you think? it seems a bit dodgy.... especially the bits I've boldened and the dodgy english

I agree - does sound very dodgeey! If i was seriously considering buying a lorry 1) after receiving the photos and having a think i'd telephone to ask a few questions and possibly arrange for me to come and have a good look! 2) if i was emailing not take such a 'slangy' approach.

I dont know i wouldnt be to convinced or happy with this, maybe just ignor the email and wait for a serious buyer?

Does seem a bit strange, unless you have the box for sale at a really ridiculously low price that just can't be missed!! Odd that she's not bothered about coming to see it. I think you're right to be wary xx

My friend had a reply in very similar wording to that re the sale of a horse she had advertised in the internet- its dodgy for sure

DO NOT accept paypal payment on a high value item like a horsebox, the can do chargeback up to 6 months after purchase so youd loose your money and lorry!!

Very dodgy sounding. They could be looking to hijack your paypal account.
If you are unsure then tell them you will only accept cash on collection. I doubt if you will then hear from them again.

Thanks all - that's what I thought. Will say only cash on collection or bankers draft and see what happens.

oddly I showed it to my dad and he didn't seem to think it was dodgy (even though he's usually the first person to spot a scam) but I think that's only because he's less au fait with modern scammers ;)

Sorry lisa_lou, it's 5.6t - good luck looking.

Absolutely avoid!!! As someone has already said - if they pay via paypal they can do a charge back on their card by telling the bank there was a fault or the goods were not as described and get ALL of their money and your horsebox!!!!!
