Selling horses cheaply - what to do?

For various reasons I have decided I have to sell my horse.
He's a pretty good horse, has money on BSJA, used to event (he's 11 now) and will do a nice dressage test, plus he's a lovely boy.
But he's not a novice ride & he has sarcoids.
this is a big problem, The sarcoids are in his girth area. He isn't 'girthy' or sore there, but obviously this means he will be very hard to sell.

I am resigned to selling cheaply but would anyone even want him?

I am worried that if I price him really cheaply then he will maybe not end up in the right home? How cheap is too cheap? would I actually sell him do you think?

it might be better to loan him out, that way they will know they arent stuck with the problem? Selling would be hard with the sarcoid in that area I would think, even if the reasons for selling are unrelated it will be quite hard for buyers to be sure?
 
i would treat the sarcoids first then sell (and declare) i am an acupuncturist and honestly wouldnt think that acupuncture would shift sarcoids! (otherwise i would specialise in sarcoids only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) get your vet to send pics to derek knottenbelt in liverpool and get a treatment programme!it works 95% of the time! good luck he is saleable but the sarcoids reduce his value by about a third!

Easier said than done.
I have tried the liverpool cream. But they have grown back. :(
I have also tried a few alternative methods.

Bit worried about loaning him as I could end up in a situation where he is coming back to me and I do not have a stable.

I would happily give him away I think if I could find the right home but then that comes with it's own issues I guess.

Ho -hum, poor horse. :(
 
I've got a difficult, intermittently unsound horse out on loan to someone and if he came back (and I couldn't find another loaner) I would have him PTS.
If I sold him I should think he would end up doing the rounds of the markets, which is far crueller than just to let him go.
 
Ditto lots of the advice above .... but I think it is more important WHERE you advertise ... and also that you give it time.

If it was me, I would do a "Loan/Possible Sale" advert with farrier, tackshop, feed merchant, etc rather than the local adtrader. I think you are more likely to get a genuine response from a local person who is prepared to take him on.

Be honest and picky about who has him ... he really doesn't deserve to go out into the big wide world with those problems unless you give him the best chance you can!

If you put him on loan, you have to hope that you choose wisely and the person fall in love with him and gives him a home for life, alternatively, keep a 'slush fund' so that you can deal with the situation if he rebounds on you.

if he were mine i would word an advert as if he had no sarcoids then at the end add "horse would be £xxx however due to sarcoids sensible offers invited"

Some people have more problem with sarcoids than others :)

No I wouldn't have thought so either but my vet who came to do acupuncture on my mare's bad back was discussing with my friend, who was there, a local horse whose sarcoid had been reduced to almost nothing by acu. Friend, who knows the horse, didn't know but it was my vet who had done it. He did say that it would be possible to treat most things with acupuncture but that because some organs are so deep within the body, conventional medicine works more quickly. ive had 2 horses with sarcoids, one on the sheath and one between the back legs. the back legs one got very big to the point horse walked odd and it was bleeding.

on both horses i got rid, not even a small scar.. i with a help of a friend used herbs. (yeah yeah to all those that think im raving they did work and both sarcoids went, BOTH were diagnosed by a vet then after treatment vet was offered a look and was a bit :eek:)
