We made the really hard decision to sell our big horse (16.3), and 10 days ago advertised him on Horsequest, H&H online and on a local site. We haven't had one single phonecall/ email, anything about him. Are horses, or some types of horses just not selling at the moment, or maybe I really messed up the advert ?!.

what are you selling him as? eg career wise? sometimes its just not the right time to sell certain careered horses and often people prefer to but in spring so they dont have a hard winter with a strange horse

I don't really know about what the market is doing but I suppose it is not the best time of year to sell... Are you allowed to give specifics on here about the what you put in your adverts?
I have also just advertised my horse (for loan not sale, but still horrid decision) and didn't hear anything at all for 2 days. OH reckoned I was too specific about the type of home I wanted her to go to and came across like a nightmare control freak and had listed all her quirks which were putting people off (none of them are THAT bad). So we edited the ad and only listed the good points and have had 5 or 6 emails/phone calls since Thursday night. So now they can find out what a nightmare control freak I am over the phone and that has put them all off so far :D

Nothing is selling I have two but nothing really going on, advertised but very quiet. Both county level show horses, don't know what to suggest.

Selling him as Allrounder/Showjumper. He has mainly competed at jumping, but had a go at a bit of everything. Was really undecided about letting him go, but have another 2, and to be honest, time or lack of it is becoming a real problem, so trying to keep 3 up and running with OH working away is turning into a nightmare.
Don't know how to post links !!, but he is on here under Warwickshire (12 yr old bay Belgian Warmblood), and all my ads were pretty much the same.

Actually it might be the contrast on my laptop screen, but anyway another photo wouldn't do any harm. He sounds very nice, the sort of thing I would be looking for if I had the money! I wonder if his lack of experience in dr/xc for his age is putting people off - for that money you can get something younger with the same experience - but presumably that wouldn't matter to an sj home.
I'm surprised you haven't had any enquiries from people looking for a nice showjumper for the winter season.

If that link's right, then I'd say you need a couple of better photos. Whilst the one you've used shows his jump off, you really can't see him properly. If you're looking for £5k for a horse, then you need to make him really catch the eye.

Okay, having no idea about the link, I have just copied and pasted the ad, but couldn't get the pic !!!, hope that's okay. Didn't put as much in this one about how easy he is, and good for loading etc, as you only get 8 lines. Here are a few other pics I have, but some a bit dark.

He really does look beautiful but I think the pics could still be better. You're right, the 3 you've posted are too dark, apart from perhaps the one where the rider is just in ordinary, everyday clothes.

I think someone has beat me to it with the link, while I was faffing around cutting and pasting. I have real probs with photos and sizes and being a technofool, as when downloading to sites for ads, they always say too big, so end up using one that will get accepted.
I know about his lack of experience XC/ dressage, could be a prob. My husband only really likes to jump competitively, but takes him to local XC for some funtime, and he does enjoy it. I have done some dressage with him, and had some training, and he goes really well, but is a bit too big for me. My friend loves him, and was meant to take him on loan and keep him with us, but her horse has gone lame, vets visit showed ongoing foot probs, so she can't sell him now, hence all change.

I agree that he is not overpriced. I think put a good clear pic up of him looking beautiful and really picking up over a fence so people can see what he is like. I'd also include his winnings.
He's a lovely looking horse :)

Personally (I haven't looked at your ad) but i think you may be better off advertising on better sites. I don't think Horse Quest is up to speed when it comes to searching and neither is H&H as it's more difficult to search for specific ages/heights etc than on the likes of Horsemart and Horsedeals. I always look on Horsemart first if looking for horses/horse boxes etc and 2nd to that I'll go on horse deals as you can put specific search criteria plus you can put as much or as little text as you want (certainly on Horsemart anyway).

At the end of the day though you have to also bear in mind that this time of year (end of summer) is not the best time to try sell - the easiest (well I've always found) is spring time when people are looking for something for the summer. It's a bit more to consider buying a horse just before winter!
