Selling horses/ponies to a bad home

Anyone sold there horse/pony and found it to be in a bad state?? i sold my pony a year and a bit ago and just got her back yesterday and shes pretty much a rspca case, stuck in a stable in her own muck for 14 weeks, feet not done in over a year, her hair all matted from wee/crap in her dirty bed, all wormy as ribs showing but she is fat and on the verge of laminitus, feet are disgusting she has thrush and her frogs look all rotten. Poor pony they didnt even look after her basic needs, i will put up before and after photos at some point. just wondered if this has happened to anyone else??
 
Not to me no ... I just wanted to say how sorry I am you have found her in a bad state.
I hope a little tlc sets her on the road to good health again.

I haven't sold any of my horses, I would have to be in a desperate place to do so. My horses have a home for life with me.

Out of interest, what did you say to her buyers about the state she was in?
 
So sorry. I know someone who used to post on here,he sold his beloved pony and found it was in a bad state. He borrowed some money to buy him back. He couldnt get his old stable back so I took him in for awhile. So sad

I had to get my friend to get her back for me as they wouldnt sell her back to me, i sold her to them and she was a competition pony, they dumped her in a field and let her get fat and few months later someone tried to ride her and she dumped them, not suprised as shes not been ridden for so long!! cause she did they that just left her and another pony get into that state.

They said she was dangerous but wouldnt the majoraty of horses/ponies dumped in a rich field for a few months be full of it??

So my friend got her back for me, i got her back for free cause they wanted rid, seeing as they had rspca called on them before and 2 ponies got put down.

The other pony was given away for free as well and was in the same state, though that horse was a sweety, was bombproof pony and just left to get like that.
 
OP - What a horror story :mad::mad:. That's dreadful and thank goodness you found out and were able to 'rescue' her.

It really upsets me that people go into buying a horse/pony and don't look after them properly or can't afford to look after them.

I'm a first time owner and have been doing my homework for over 30 years before taking the plunge - that said he's on full livery at a very experienced yard.

Boyo has his own Facebook page - two of his previous owners are his 'friends' - I upload pictures and updates every couple of months so they can see how he's getting on :D.
 
How did you find out/ get her back? Sounds awful poor girly and poor you. She is lucky you found her and saved her xx
 
I am glad she is back with you, even if you did have to do it on the sly.
As I said before, hope she turns a corner soon with you.

As i wasnt getting any updates, i asked someone on the yard about 2 weeks ago how she was and she told me what a state she was in, but they wouldnt sell her back to me unless i paid them what they paid me (this is from yard manager not owner) i wouldnt pay 500 quid for a pony in her state at the moment!

so i got my friend to ring yard owner and she was very keen on just getting rid so she let her have her and she gave her back to me.

if i couldnt have got her back i would have rang the rspca and gone down that route.
 
i bathed her today with hot water as so cold, and was disgusting the wee and crap coming out of her matted coat!
she not her usual self as i remember her to be, but the old yard just shoved her and the other pony at the back of the yard where noone goes so i think she was in shock! shes perked up a bit now though.
 
Sometimes you have to go the roundabout route, years ago I saw a kitten in a pet shop that obviously had cat flu, I said something to the shop owner, who then refused to sell me the kitten, I got a friend to go buy it, then went and confronted the owner, not long after, they were banned from selling livestock, nothing to do with me I might add
