As title, I have 3 horses I really need to sell, 2 rising 4(unbroken)and one 6 year old, I’m absolutely dreading letting them go and I’m not convinced they’ll sell, what do people do if they can’t find a buyer?

Coming into spring is never a bad time to sell, if you can't find a buyer and cannot keep them then then either keep reducing the price and/or ensure your advert if the best it can be and make sure you're advertising in the right places, so relevant breed/activity groups on FB.

You could also have them bcked and then sell, but you wouldn't make your money back

Sold my ex racer with a few previous health issues in a week, he was 4k though so not a huge amount. Things that are reasonably priced seem to be selling fine!

Tell us about them, someone on here may be interested.
The 4yr olds are ID x, one is real quality, the other is nice but not in the same league, both have super temperaments though. Have one booked in to be backed in 3 weeks in the hope it’ll make her easier to sell. The 6 year old is stunning but has a quirk so would need someone with a lot of experience, I really think she could go far in the right hands though, she’s sport horse but breeding unrecorded. I’m terrified they’ll end up in the wrong homes though. I’ve only ever sold 2 horses my whole life and one of them ended up in a horrible situation, I was racked with guilt. I’m extremely attached to them but sadly, they really must go

Have you advertised them on the IDHS(GB) fb page, and make sure you state their actual pedigree and bloodlines. If I’m looking I want to know the full pedigree and I know others are the same.

I will PM you.

I’d advertise the 2 unbacked ones now and say they will be going off for backing soon and will then be advertised at higher price.

It’s really worth putting some effort into your advert. Keep the wording fairly concise, the type of buyers you will want will be able to tell most from a well presented horse. Give them a good groom and trim. Stand them up well and show them off to their best. If you can get some trot up video too.

The older one is very variable on what the quirk is versus how nice the horse is and its potential

I advertised my IDx 3yo. Who is a big lad, but quality. Ive had so many timewasters. You wouldnt believe the number of people ive had ask if he would make a happy hacker for a rusty 60+ rider. Then ive had the video collectors, and the down right rude. Multiple dealers who would happily turn up in a truck and collect same day and offer me a fraction of what hes worth.
I now understand why some people put on the advert no messages phone calls only.
I was chatting to a good friend of mine who is in the know with these types, in the UK and Ireland. Shes saying the market has crashed. People are buying from Ireland and getting deals for a fraction of what it costs to raise one over here. The market is better for those that have been started.

However.. i do have a couple of people who have viewed and both keen. Both bringing someone else to come and have a look before vetting. So as my blood pressure is off the scale ive taken his adverts down.

Plan is let these 2 decide, and if not then hes going back out into the field and he will be sent for backing next year and sold then.

To those who sell horses regularly / for a living i salute you.

We had this the end of last year with the filly we ideally need to sell. So many timewasters, after one particularly bad one, we just took her off the market for the winter.
