Hi there! I have a trailer that I have had since brand new and got all relevant paperwork, etc with it at the time. I have since lost the paperwork (!) and so wondered am I allowed to sell it without it? Or is there someone I need to contact to inform them? Help please! Thank you in advance :)

Well I recently sold my Ifor williams 510 back to the dealer I bought it from but I had all the paperwork etc. However I should think there are more trailers being sold without the paperwork than there are with. I had had my box from new so it had only had one owner, if a trailer is sold several times I would imagine the likelyhood of it still having paperwork is probably nil. Also when I say I had the paperwork, I dont think you actually get ownership documents as you do a car, I had an ifor williams manual with the serial number written on the front, a datatag leaflet or pamphlet and a 'how to tow a horsebox' booklet. I also had the keys to the towhitch, and the original receipt. So I dont think there is a problem selling it at all, if i was buying secondhand I dont suppose I would expect it to still have the original bits and pieces unless it was only a couple of years old.

If you registered it in your name when you bought it, buyers can ring Ifor Williams with the serial number and will be told that you are the owner. If not, you might want to ring IW tomorrow so you are registered as the owner, just to avoid any misunderstandings :)

Yes actually you can contact IW and ask them to create new securetag documents with the chassis number and provide the purchase documents.

It's no problem. All that people want to know is that it is not stolen. It's up to the purchaser to get a new securetag anyway if they want it. Like I did.

The most important thing to me would be proof of a service at least from that year especially if it was a braked trailer.
