Dear all,

I'm going to advertise my saddle for sale, and want to know what price you'd recommend? It's a 17.5in Platinum SLK Ultima - the adjustable one on the Genesis tree (I love that, sounds very sci-fi!) where the headplate can be changed. They cost £1850 new, I bought mine brand new and used it on my other horse, then the flippin thing's feet went kaput after 6 months.

I had it changed to fit my young mare so it'd be a medium/medium wide, but I moved her to an event yard where they wouldn't ride in anything but Butet, so yet again I end up with a saddle in the house!

Now is not the time to have a two grand house ornament, so time to sell. The thing is, prices for ordinary SLKS seem to vary so much - from not far off full price to very cheap. However, I reckon as mine is the adjustable one, not to mention in LOVELY condition - spotless, clean, hardly used, with saddlecloth, leathers, irons and the cantle protector, I'm going to ask £1,300. Still over £500 off new price and a saddler I showed it to recently said "that's almost new condition" so I think it's a fair price, not a rip-off. What do you lot think, oh wise saddle peeps?

I don't think you are being unreasonable, your problem will be actually getting someone to pay for it. If you have a good local saddler, I would pass it to them to sell for you. It is a lot of money for someone to spend on somewhere like ebay.

I did approach the saddler but they said it's in too good condition for them (?!) - he said it was "like a new saddle", so they'd not be able to give me enough for it to then sell on for a profit. I've put it on the BD site, think I might put it on H&H too. But at least I am not way off on the price. They are truly lovely saddles and mine has kept me in the plate in many a hairy moment!

Albion's have been going for quite a good price on Ebay.

You may have better luck on Saddles Direct though.

Ooh, have they? I have a Saddle Company event saddle I'm selling too, and that is going on Ebay, but I assumed the Albion might have been too high price? Suppose I can always put it on with a good reserve... Funny you mention it, I was just on saddles direct the other day - they do make a charge, but it's not massive and might be useful.

The gutting this is I don't REALLY want to sell the Albion, it's soo lovely to ride in - but just don't need that expensive an ornament. A non-horsey friend said in all seriousness: "can you use it as a chair?" Well...

I've just bought an Albio off Ebay - a lovely HHO spotted it for me (and as it was mis-listed I got it for peanuts). However the Albion Legends were all going for around the £600 mark - more for the newer ones.

Jetset did put up a warning post about selling saddles via ebay the other day. But I've sold two with no probs. And will be selling another one on there shortly.

Put a big fat reserve on though to safeguard yourself.

I've bought second-hand saddles on there before with no problems, and sold a few too. What are you going to be selling? I'm putting an event saddle on there soon, I need something to sell so I can buy myself something cheap and cheerful like a Wintec Isabel!

I'm selling a 17" (I think) brown Bates Caprilli GP with intercheable gullets (with two templates).

I sold exactly the same saddle on ebay started it off a 99p as people like to bid and got £1200 for it. hope this helps you.

Cheers Cloppy! I might give that a go if the BD ad doesn't get a bite. I'm listing a SC event saddle on there anyway. What did we all do before Ebay?
