selling on a gifted horse??

If you have the horse in your name in the passport then I can't see the problem? Does the person who gave you the horse dispute ownership?

yeah, or if anyone has had any experience of this.

I was given a horse six years ago, have had no contact from the previous owner in that time and because the horse was kept in a really poor condition with little grazing etc I would like to avoid her going back there if at all possible but feel the time is right for her to be moved on from me.

If you're not the registered keeper, send off to have your details put on the passport as the keeper. I doubt after 6 years of no contact, the person is going to rock up and declare some ownership. It doesn't matter what you did or didn't pay for the horse, you can sell it for what you think appropriate

they way you have worded that sound more like a loan.... just with no contact. Did you actually discuss the concept of the horse being signed over to your permenantly? Did she sign it over on the passport?

I thought so. I will speak to the passport agency and get that up dated first.
Thank you.

so the horse is NOT in your name...... Why have you not done that before if you own it? The previous owner should sign a form for the passport issuers stating that they no longer on the horse. You should not be able to just declare you now own the horse without that confirmation.

Can you not contact the old owner?

the circumstances of the hand over were rather complicated! The poor horse was kept in a dispiccable condition. I received a phone call from the previous owner saying she no longer wanted the horse and could i come and pick it up. It was definately not a loan situation and that was over six years ago.
