I'm still trying sell my beloved boy. He's turning 16 BUT and this is a big but he didn't get ridden properly till 8 yrs so has no wear n tear n still loves to work. He is kind natured in everyway sensilbe n very funny. He looks better than he did at 10yrs and looks better.

So my question is how the hell do you convince buyers this is the case?

Due to his age I think you've got to mention the lack of work before he was 8, also this might sound silly, but there is a stigma attached to tb's, can you list him without it coming under the title tb, then not mention unraced, and leave it to callers to ask breeding???? I know some tb' can be THE most laid back horses, 1, 4 year old I peronally knew of took the phrase dope on a rope to new levels!!! But people just don't pick them out of choice unfortunately.... Other than that, jumping pic isn't the best, taken a fraction too late with him front leg coming down, any better one?? The others are nice, he looks a nice type and good price.

About as easily as I convince them my 7/8 tb 3 yr old I have for sale is unbelievably sane, sensible, sweet & takes everything in her stride.

thanks some very good points. I have tried not mentioning the Tb, but i have had people ask me his breeding and promptly hang up not long afterwards and also some ads you cant not but the breeding.

My boy is joked to be a cob in disguise becasue he is soo laid back - dont get me wrong he is forward but sensilble with it. But will easily fall asleep and be a dope on a rope when your handling him!!

Would 16 years put me off - no.

Would a trade advert with stolen photos and a horse described as " for sale 15 yrs hunted 3 seasons and is an ex-showjumper. Looking for quieter life" put me off - yes.

15/16 is not that old but this implies he is slowing down or not up to the job anymore.

Have you thought of putting a video on his ad? If a picture is worth a thousands words, then a video is worth a million! A nice clear video of him working in the school should prove how freely he moves for a horse of his age, plus will show that he is not an idiot TB.

OP he looks like a really smashing horse. I certainly wouldn't be put off by his age.

Good luck selling him - I hope someone comes along quickly and snaps him up.

Nothing glaringly obvious in his ad to say why he is not selling, but bear in mind the market is very slow at the moment, and it is a bad time of year to sell with all the rubbish weather.

Totally agree that you should mention him coming in to work later than life, and push him as a schoolmaster.

He looks a super type and imagine come spring will sell, and would hold out for the price as think it is reasonable for a horse of his ability. I sold a 16yr old ex show cob for £2500 last year, around April, and was inundated with enquiries, and he has gone off to do dressage and hacking.

Good luck!
