I have posted in BD but I'm not part of the clique so as usual it's had chuff all response... So HHO can you help us?

We have decided to sell our older advanced horse, it's very a emotive area and we have decided for that reason it is best if he is sent somewhere else to sell as we really can't face the thought of selling him from here.
Could I have some recommendations in the south/south east and are assessment fees the norm? I ask because I contacted a few people about them selling him on our behalf and one has asked for us to take him to them and pay £50 for an assessment.
Thanks

I cannot really help but think it a cheek that anyone should ask for an assessment fee, surely they only need to ask his name and look at his BD record to know whether they want to have him in their yard and sell him.
I suppose there is a possibility they could think he has a dodge which is why you are not selling him directly and are worried that it could come back at them, you may be best looking at a young rider or someone not really connected with pure dressage but the risk then is that they may not have the contacts or ability to get the best result.
I do a few sales and if I have any concerns I take them for a weeks assessment before putting them on the market or sending them back home, worst case scenario, but this is not likely to happen with a trained horse that has a record, I usually end up with other peoples problems to move on, which is a whole different ball game.

Thanks, nothing dodgy at all but can see why someone might think that, Mr W is heartbroken and can't sell him himself we have had him 8 years and don't want to sell but financial reasons mean we are selling.

Thanks Rotter13 no not too far, who is it? Pm if you prefer.

Have you tried Andrew Gould? I think a bigger name sells horses quicker and people are prepared to pay more to say it came via a big name.

The £50 fee might be what they charge for a lesson or schooling, and time is money as they say (to some people)
