I had a little browse through Dressage Saddles for sale on ebay the other day, and ended up quite depressed because hardly any of them had attracted a bid.

I am considering getting a new saddle, but I would like to sell my current ones - 1 GP, 1 dressage by the same maker. I don't want to give them away, they surely must have some value.

What is the best way to sell a decent but second hand saddle?

I share your depression Orangehorse! I had a browse the other day to get an idea of what I might get for my second hand Saddle Company Saddle, which having already replaced it, I really need to sell to get some money back!

A couple of years ago you couldn't get one second hand for much less than they are new- now they are going for about a tenner it seems :-(

Unfortunately, my saddler didn't want the Saddle Co in part exchange, but if yours are a 'better' make, they may well take them and that's probably where you'll get the best price for them.

You may well find that no-one bids until the last minute, I have 3 saddles on ebay at the moment - a GP, a dressage and a close contact jump saddle, and I started them all at 99p and have had bids up to something like £2.20 but something ridiculous like 46 people watching.

Having said that the saddles are all pretty old, if they were decent saddles Id probably p-ex them or send them to a saddler to sell on commission. Saddles Direct may be worth a look, and I know Rideaway sell second hand saddles too but dont know how they go about it.

Ditto what Pod said, I've sold saddles on there before and know one seems to bid until right at the last minute, I've also got 2 saddles on there now with quite a few watchers. I do think things tend to sell better if you start them off low, this is what I do, and they always reach what I'd expected, if not more :)
