Selling saddles - not ebay - so where?

Having had a VERY nervous few days when I last sold a saddle on ebay because they now withold the money until the buyer has either left positive feedback or 21 days have elapsed, I am not keen on using ebay again to sell the two I now need to get rid of. I worry that someone will buy them, they won't fit and then they will want to return them and so I will have to agree, plus it is a pain being so out of pocket for so long - makes me nervous that they have the saddle but I do not have the money!

So where else should I advertise them? I have only ever looked on ebay for second hand saddles.

I was thinking of an ad on eventingworldwide - do people look there for things like that?

I have someone looking at them on Friday, but if she does not want them then they have to be advertised next weekend.

Would you look in ad trader etc for really decent saddles? They are both Ideal, both only 18 months old in excellent condition, and I want more than £500 for them so H&Hs tack bit is no good. I just don't really know where to put them if not ebay.

Or should I put them on ebay and just be scared for a while?!

Horsequest and British Dressage? BD is free. What saddles are they, size etc? I agree about Ebay - it's a bit stack-loaded against the seller these days.
 
I have been trying to sell a saddle on e-bay and it hasn't made the reserve - which was low!! Neither have I had any success with local adverts, just think that there is an excess of people wanting money for Xmas. I'm going to wait until the spring now.

They are both medium fit, one is an ideal springbok 17.5 inch jump saddle, one is an ideal roella 17 inch dressage saddle.

They are both lovely, my horse is just not anywhere near being a medium any more!
 
I sold mine through my local Friday-Ad - mind you, it took a long time, but mine wasn't a well-known make. I told the buyer that she could take it away to try on her horse (as long as she paid me first) and if it didn't fit, she could bring it back & I would give her the money back - there was no real risk on either part.
 
I would suggest saddlesdirect too and horsequest - have you tried local tackshops and feed merchants?

If you want more than £500 each for them, is it not worth paying a bit to advertise them on H&H?

I haven't tried anywhere - hence asking for where people look!

Saddlesdirect I will try but I bet they will not give me what I want for them - last time I tried them they told me that the price I wanted for my saddle was realistic secondhand but they could buy them new for that price!!

'A bit' to advertise in H&H - yes. The amount H&H want to charge, especially given their seemingly limitless ability to make errors in adverts, and the fact that the ad only runs for 2 weeks for the price (as opposed to other places where it is either cheaper or runs for longer, and where they are capable of printing an ad without getting my phone number wrong, for example), then no, probably not worth it. The following ad would cost me £46.50 for 2 weeks online and in print and I can't see how to cut it down at all:

Ideal roella dressage saddle, 17inch £X.
Ideal springbok jump saddle, 17.5 inch £X.
Both medium, 18 months old, pictures
available. ONO. Tel: X.
Email: X (Location)

Online only is £10 for 2 weeks. In contrast Horsequest is £10 for five weeks.
 
I'd try Horsequest - seems to have good results. I sold my show saddle really quickly and for a better price that I would have got on EBay - more specialised somehow?

Ooh, I didn't know they withheld the money.
Since when have they done this and do you know where it says that it on the Ebay site?

What a con, I bet they are making some interest on peoples money if they are holding it for 21 days.

SaddlesDirect will let you advertise your saddle privately on their website which means you don't sell it to them to sell on if that makes sense. Might be worth investigating.

Also, is there not a tack section on horsequest? Don't know how many people look there though
 
I have my two saddles on ebay at the moment. I have simply stated cash on collection only, limits the buyers to those who will pick up but at least I avoid the paypal issue. I was going to put mine on saddles direct-it is £10 for a month, but need them gone ASAP so I can buy one which fits.
