Have got a couple of saddles I need to sell as they are taking up too much room. There is a 2nd hand shop opening soon that will sell for commission or I could put on ebay & I'm trying to make up my mind between the 2. The thing that's putting me off ebay is posting the things - how do you pack them up? Royal Mail or courier?

Massive box, lots of padding and book with a courier. The only pain is you need to wait in to get it picked up. Actually I think with parcel force you can drop it off at a local post office for them. I struggle to find boxes that size aswell

Just get a big box and some bubble wrap, If you take them to. The post office it's about £16 uninsured. If you do it online through parcel force they come and collect it from your house at an agreed time. eBay will be the quicker way to sell, just make sure you include lots of photos and measurements such asd ring tod ring etc x

i usually put said saddle in a box with some bubble wrap to help protect it, to post a wintec 500 cost about £16 via parcleforce 48 (royal mail) and that was tracked and insured with a value up to £200. However i know some of the good quality leather gp saddles weight a lot more than a synthetic wintec so i would check weight limits with royal mail, just check their website for help. If it does turn out to be over the limit, try shopping about as most courriers(sp) will collect from your house for you. I have used my hermes in the past and they were brilliant. hope this helps :)

I wrap in bubble wrap, also putting some thick card over the pommel and cantel, to prevent any damage, then into a cardboard box, filling out the empty areas with more bubble wrap. last saddle sent cost £26 parcel force, and was insured upto £300.

Try Parcel Monkey online for posting them. I've recently used them to return saddles that I've bought online and next day delivery is from about £7-8 - more if you want the item insured. They'll collect the parcel, and have picked them up from the shed for me, so I haven't had to wait in either.

The saddle courier on Ebay is excellent, if you book direct from the website it as about £13 I think, I have used them twice and both times it has been a very efficient next day service. Can highly recommend them.
Before anybody says anything, I have no connections with this company!

I used a courier last time as get fed up with queuing at the Post office. Booked the pick up from the office at work so I didn't have to wait in.

I've sold three saddles on E-bay now - if its a well known brand they seem to sell really well as people know what sort of fit they'll be getting but for anything else I would expect to get a bit less as they're buying un seen.

Do not go uninsured - everything I sell at considerably lower value is sent recorded delivery - I have had stuff missing when sent to me so don't risk it. Also, there have been stories on here of people who have sent out saddles without a recorded delivery and then the buyer denies all knowledge of receiving it..Just be clear about the costs when you put up your ad.

I have one boxed up to go tomorrow, i have done it special delivery 24 hours and it cost me £23 (well the person who brought it) that what it is insured and tracked.

Thanks. I'll start looking for boxes! I think I'll try the pony saddle in the 2nd hand place for a while as it's not a well known make & try the wintec on ebay once I've found a suitable box. I've also found out that there is an equestrian boot sale locally next month & I'm thinking of having a stall with a friend.
