Selling saddles on ebay?

No idea - I have just sold one of mine on ebay with no problems at all. Got £30 less than I paid, have been paid already and it has been posted - so very happy with the way it went.

The only nightmare was me working out how to fill in all the necessary fields - but thats because I am useless.....

I'm wondering about this too, as I've had great success selling rugs on ebay, but I now have several saddles to sell (some of them Albions!!) and as my local tack shop aren't taking second hand stuff at the mo, I have NO idea what is the best thing to do with it.....

The best advice I can give you is don't put a reserve on it. I started mine at 99p and I had 26 watchers and a bidding war at the end. Someone else on here has lsited their 3 times with a reserve and they haven't had a single bid. The same thing also happened to a friend at the yard - listed with a reserve and got no bids so tried again at 99p and sold it for nearly what she wanted.

I think you have to take the view that any money you get is more than you have if it is sitting sround in your tack room etc sadly there is no other market for tack round here any more other than the tack sale at Melton Market and you would probably be lucky to get £20 a saddle.

I listed mine with a reserve and had no problems whatsoever selling it.It was the first item I had sold as well and I got £50 more for it than I paid for it.The only problem is paypal withheld the funds for 21 days(which is still not quite up yet) even though I had positive feedback within a couple of days of the sale.

Also to add, selling on ebay has become very expensive with all the fees. You have to pay a fee to receive money by paypal then another one to move your money to the bank I believe, on top of selling fees.
You might be better to advertise somewhere like horsequest for a one off fee.....or PM me details cos I am looking for a saddle LOL!

I've never had any problems selling saddles on ebay. Paypal didnt seem to hold my funds either - but i guess i didnt check, as i cant transfer it to my bank anyway (got married, and that hassle to get paypal names changed over is a nightmare! they advised me to spend my balance, close the account and open a new one!) Its a bad habit though, sell stuff, leave money in paypal - have a shopping spree - result, havent gained anything except more horsey stuff!

I've sold 4 saddles on Ebay recently and bought one. All went with no problems for what I wanted and immediate payment. Agree with no reserve, folk like to think they are straight in with a chance!

I've sold a couple of saddles on 'Buy It Now'. It might be worth advertising on US ebay also - with the exchange rate now stuff from the UK is cheap over there. I posted one saddle to the US, cost about £80 which the buyer paid.

Just sold 2 saddles on ebay- dressage & working hunter. Was very quick and painless- start them cheap enough to get peoples attention, LOTS of good pictures and keep postage reasonable.

My sister recently sold a prestige meredith on ebay. We bought it 3yrs ago for £1340 and it sold for £1120 cash! They're selling well 2nd hand at the moment because prestige have upped their prices.

have put my dressage saddle on twice now and it didnt sell, its almost new, i think i started it off at about £300 maybe should try starting it off at 99p and hope for the best

I'd still put a reserve on it - otherwise you might have to let it go for £10 !

I've just sold one. With a reserve on. Starting price was 99p

Several people asked for a Buy It Now Price, so I told them the reserve and then they never bid! So I guess they were hoping for a cheapie which I wasn't prepared to sell at

Fees will work out quite expensive. About 10% plus listing fee/reserve fee, and Paypal fee.

But on the other hand, I know that if I'd put the saddle in my local Tack Shop, they'd have wanted 20% commission, and it'd sat there for a year unsold.

This way I got nearly what I paid for it and have had 8 months of good use out of it to boot.

yeah thats my worry i know im not going to get what i paid for it although it was an almost new saddle but i dont want to give it away.
Im going to advertise it on saddles direct now and see what happens, they only offered me £250 for it, bloody cheek
