Sorry, this has probably been done to death...

But, if selling saddles on Ebay, do you need to do anything differently from selling a normal item? I thought you did but I don't know what - have a couple of saddles I need to get rid of...

Cheers

no but pay pal will hold your payment until feedback recieved.
very annoying if your selling as need cash fast :{

I think that is only if your feed back score isn't big, I've sold a few saddles via ebay and they've never kept my money.

Shouldn't be a problem though - and certainly when selling more expensive items on Ebay I've never experienced a delay in payment though paypal.

oh my feedback is only 20 ......is that why ?
my partner just sold his western saddle .
and payment is being held until feedback received or delivery
is confirmed ?
is this just us lol ????????????

So what would happen if do not get feed back ?, i have never sold anything on ebay although i do buy and leave feed back everytime.
I do know of people who do not leave feed back everytime, is there a time limit then the funds are released if feed back does not arrive.

Thanks for this guys - I've got a reasonable amount of feedback both from buying and selling so hopefully that will be ok.

Are there any other sites for selling saddles that you can recommend?

Cheers,

yes funds released 19 days later if no feedback recieved.
its put me off selling saddles as need that money to buy another one , so could be 3 weeks without a saddle :{

I think it's a recent PayPal/eBay security thing - if the sale's over £150, PayPal withhold the money for 28 days or until the buyer leaves positive feedback. This is regardless of your amount of feedback.

Means I don't use eBay that much anymore. Understand about creating a secure marketplace but it's so weighted in favour of the buyer now, it's frustrating

It's not regardless of feedback' i just sold a saddle for £350 on ebay and the payment was not held by paypal. I have 250 feedback 100% positive.

in my experience it's a good place to sell saddles, just make sure you send tracked and appropriately insured because it is your responsibility as a seller to do so. If you can't prove delivery of the item paypal will expect you to refund the buyer and if you don't they will just take the money from your account.

I have just sold 2 on Ebay and Paypal have not held any money, have had feedback on one but not the other yet and the money is available.
All I would say is to make sure you have the postage covered, I charged £20 for each saddle - one a new Wintec and it was £18.50 48 hour Parcelforce insured up to £250 and the other a new Farrington which I also had insured up to £500 and they charged me £31.50 so I was well out of pocket but wouldnt send without insurance. What I should have done is charged the buyer if they wanted insurance.
Ebay fees are 10% of selling price now and Paypal fees are also high so that has taken a big chunk of the money but then again where else do you sell them?

you can't risk sending without insurance; under ebay rules even if the buyer chooses NOT to pay the insurance and the saddle got lost in the post then you the seller will still have to refund the buyer= no saddle and no money!!

MW you could have sent special next day delivery for £21.65 and it's insured up to £500 and will be delivered next day before 1pm, plus you can track online.

If you are not in a major rush then I would recommend trying Preloved. I got fed up of the ebay rules changing every week and all the increasing additional info that had to be given was making advertising very time consuming. I have swapped to selling on preloved it is quick and easy and also I have found that recently it is starting to get much busier. There is no fee for private sellers unless you agree with the buyer to use paypal for payment and then there is just the paypal fees.

I have sold a lot of high value items on ebay including saddles and have never had any money held back. is it to do with paypal account not being fully verified, as you can only draw out so much money if your not fully verified. last saddle i sold went to Italy and italian customs made off with it!!!!. parcel force traced it to customs and no further. I have had other people tell me that sending stuff to Italy can be "interesting".

The money will only be withheld pending feedback if you have a low feedback score, and the item was over a certain value.although I don't know how many/much though.
