I am trying to sell my two Kieffer saddles so I can use the money to go towards the made to measure I am getting for Rudy.

I have made up some adverts, emailed them to equine friends and I will be putting the ads up where I can. In the meantime, I have sent the pics to Saddles Direct and they have emailed me to tell me what they would give me should I want to sell to them. Now, do I accept the offer (£250 less than I would privately) or do I hold out for a private sale??
What would you all do?

Thanks

I probably would take the offer from saddles direct if it still covered the cost of the new made to measure saddle cos its just less hassle and an immediate sale.

I would take the offer, selling saddles privately is almost hopeless and if you ebay them i doubt you will get anywhere near what you want.

Ebay, just sold my friends Albion dressage saddle for her and got £500 when SD only offered her £350......you can always put collection only to save postage hassles but you can box it up and get it collected and sent anywhere for prob around £30ish. You can always put a starting price at the price SD have offered you and see how it goes, put on your Ebay ad that you have it advertised elsewhere privately (covers you if you sell it and have to end the auction early) Good luck!

I would def say try ebay, doesn't cost much to advertise and you can put a reserve on so if it doesn't sell you haven't lost much. I put one of mine on and even though it didn't sell I got an email a couple of days later from someone and sold it that way...even more of a bonus I happened to mention another one I was selling and she wanted that one too (guess I was a bit jammy though on that one

) SD, granted takes the hassle out of selling but always offer a really low price so IMO not really worth taking a big hit if you need the money for a new saddle!

I'm in a similar dilemma and have decided ebay is too risky for such large items; what with the postage and charges (have bought but not sold saddles successfully from there though). I think I am taking mine to a tack shop who will sell them on my behalf and take 25% as I still think that will leave me better off

Think horsequest is quite good for selling tack. I've certainly been looking on there. I'd try selling them yourself first. I wouldn't use ebay - had a bad experience selling a saddle on there. Don't want to be paying the postage for someone to try it out & then send it back!

Ebay good for specialist saddles and brand names. I sold 2 saddles. Did best on Albion.

Very true - although I tend to buy them rather than sell them. Ideal events and dressage saddles, and Albions, tend to make very good prices but GOOD saddles less known can often be bought very cheaply. I got an almost new Sturgess GP (about £900 new) for under a third of that on E-bay, because it's not a well-known saddle (just fantastic!!) But you have to be lucky to get a cheap Albion or Ideal.

QR - Thank you all for your replies. They have been most helpful.

I will continue with my ad campaign and then try ebay. Will get OH to get his selling account set up.

Also, if anyone has a board at their local EC or yard, and wouldn't mind pinning an ad up for me, could you PM me and I'll send the ad? (How cheeky am I!!??
