Hi I’ve sold my boy and a transport company is collecting him tomorrow and taking him to his new home, 4hrs away so they purchasers are not coming in person.

Just wondering what to do re logistics of payment? I was going to ask for cleared funds before the transport company comes and gets him, either later today or first thing in the morning? I’ve got a receipt ready which I was going to email over…they have already paid a deposit.

Does that all sound ok? They won’t be here to sign the receipt or contract of sale or whatever.

Thanks

I would ask clear funds prior to collection, it is what I had to do before buying and my welsh was collected in Wales I did not go. I would not let horse leave your yard without full payment and have a prepared letter from her stating with transporter

on this day - date.........you sold ( horses name and breed ) to Mrs ........ so and so for agreed price (insert here), then an area for you to sign and copy this letter for your records or photo with phone and give to transporter.

Cleared funds before they would load to deliver was what I had to do which if I was selling I would expect. Mine was more stressful as the bank wouldn't release my funds and I had a lot of phone calls with them . They were asking if i had had a horse before , had I seen it and other stupid questions. I guess when I am fully senile in a few years and start just buying every pretty pony on the internet I will be please they are looking after me !!!

Same. I was actually there with the horse and spent an hour tussling with questions like

Have you seen the horse?

She's standing in front of me

Do you know the seller?

Only 25 years.

Have you met the seller?

She's standing in front of me.

When will you receive the horse?

Well if you clear these funds I'm waiting to load her into my van!

Etc.
.

I payed for both of mine before they got on the lorry for collection.

Same as above for Tali the bank wouldn’t transfer funds even though I’d already transferred money to that account. Very frantic phone calls ensued as she was coming on a shared load from Italy but finally got it sent. Didn’t need that extra stress as I was already buying unseen from another country and didn’t actually know what they were going to send. Fortunately my perfect little horse turned up.

I transferred funds once transporter confirmed they were ready to load, seller confirmed receipt & pony was delivered.
The following day I got a panicked call from the seller, the funds had disappeared from her account overnight😳
Eventually got through to my bank & they had stopped the transaction due to an error I had made on the sellers name & were treating it as a scam 😅 Apparently letting me know wasn't part of the process & the money was being held by the bank, neither in my account or the sellers.
Luckily fairly quickly sorted, but I can't imagine how the sell was feeling.

A friend of mine took a full body close up video followed by 4x videos of it trotting up to show no lameness, all taken with the transporters lorry in the background, then sent the video to the buyer, buyer transferred the money, then took a further video of it loading and lorry leaving the yard and sent that to the buyer, maybe over the top but was a lot of money and was making sure there was no hassle from the buyer. Hope it all goes well for you.

I paid the night before the day of delivery when I bought my last horse, but the seller wasn't far and I knew where they lived, so wasn't worried about a no-show. Plus we were collecting ourselves in person.

Best to pay the day before. I also had problems with the bank when l bought recently. Had already sent a deposit but when l tried to pay the balance they decided it was fraud and blocked the account. Had to drive to the nearest bank, transport had been booked & paid for and they were expecting to collect the next day, helpful lady explained she’d have to contact HQ & she was likely to have as much difficulty as me!!! HQ kept saying don’t worry we’ll unblock in 3 days 😠 eventually got sorted ….but they said it could happen again if l made even a £5 payment they decided might be dodgy. I now have a blackout account with a different bank.

I had this, but I didn’t know the seller. I had a rather awkward hour long wait on their yard while I waited for the bank to release payment. They were very good about it and were actually at the “take the horse, we’ll get payment sorted somehow” stage when the payment finally turned up. I must look honest!

I had one collected, they had travelled nearly along way, and they had to wait nearly an hour before it went in to my account. I actually have a Sum up card machine and I wonder if it just wouldn't be easier to pay the commission.
