Horse went lame approx. 2 weeks ago on near fore. Box rest and bute for a while, still lame. Vet called and did an initial trot up / flexion / lunge but couldn't nerve block at the time.

Vets have come and nerve blocked today, started with the hoof, no improvement. Nerve blocked above the fetlock today and an improvement shown, x-rays taken and thankfully x-rays all clean so it's pointing to soft tissue. Can't scan today due to the nerve block.

Vets are unsure on the cause, they have said that the nerve block has possibly gone higher up into the suspensory which could have helped the lameness, but they won't know until they can come back and scan. So currently a toss up between something dodgy above the fetlock or the suspensory. They can't come back until Wednesday next week, so it's another week of box rest for my girl who detests being in for so long.

I cannot abide the waiting around not knowing!!

What reason did they give you for not being able to nerve block and scan on the same day?
Quite. Doesn’t add up.

My vets nerve block and then X ray or scan on the same day depending on what the nerve block shows.

Can you take the horse to the vets to get her seen more quickly?

ETA Forgot to add the good vibes, here they are now :).

Sending good vibes, hope its a minor tweak like our lad.
He is off games at the minute, showed a mild lameness. Went to the vets , completely sound from flexion and in a straight line, but mild lameness on a circle. They nerve blocked and scanned in the same day and found a mild strain where the suspensory attaches to the bone. So hes now rehabbing, just walk/trot out hacking. Hes had a check up and shown improvement, but not there yet. So more hacking.

Fingers crossed for you

Thanks all.

Reason for not being able to scan is time restrictions. I haven't been able to get the time off work to take her to the vets for a full work up, so I managed to get the vets to nerve block her between other appointments he had on the yard today, but he had other appointments off site this afternoon so couldn't stick around to scan once the block had worn off.

Highly irritating but not much I could do really.

I've been informed that she was a total nightmare patient and towed him around the yard, clearly not a fan of needles.

In an ideal world I'd whip her off to the vets for the day and get it all sorted there, but unfortunately I am manic with work and I'm completely booked up with redundancy meetings from now into the next 2 weeks, hence him coming to the yard today.
