It wouldn't be for me, personally, but don't have a particular problem with others eating it.

Like all meat, I'd like to think that it was ethically sourced and humanely slaughtered.

I'm afraid I couldn't do it. Couldn't eat donkey either, work too closely with horses and donkeys, it'd be like eating your friend! Pathetic probably but thats how I feel

No way, neither would I eat a dog or cat. Some people have compared it to eating livestock - cows pigs sheep but I do not see the comparison. Horses are our pets they are intelligent creatures. We have by far enough food in this country I don't see the need to.

I was on a french exchange and the evil child I was staying with fed me horse meat and told me it was pork.

I promptly (and uncontrollably) vomited all over the dining table, so the stunt somewhat backfired.

I don't see much of a problem with it as it's no different to eating other meat.. However I could never do it. By all means other people can if they want to, but I wouldn't feel right about it.. :) xx

It is meat - get over it!

As long as it is ethically raised, transported and dispatched I don't see the problem.

I wouldn't eat one of my own, but that is a whole different debate:eek:

Nope, I wouldnt eat it, and im sure i would lose my appetite if i read horse meat available on the menu. In fact i would probably walk out of the resturant, in fear of people eating it around me :-(

It probably wouldn't be my first choice of dinners out, but I don't have any problem with it. There are thougsands of horses going to slaughter every year... once it is dead, it is just 'meat' and I eat everything else and have no problem so would feel a bit hypocritical not eating it because I love horses. I'm also quite fond of cows (but they aren't a patch on our equine friends!) but I'm still going to enjoy my beef lasagne tonight...

But then, my view may be discounted as I am the girl who comes out of dissection class starving hungry, fancying a rare steak! It may well just be me!

I don't eat any animals so I don't think eating horse is any different from eating a cow or a pig. How is it disgusting to eat a horse but it's ok to eat a cow? Who decided which animals were 'in favour' and who were to be condemned to 'death row'?

Have no problem with people eating horsemeat, although we have made them "pets" they really are no different to other herbivores we eat, sheep, cows, pigs, deer etc!
In our culture its not acceptable but in others it is and we should respect that!!
Would i eat it ?? No i wouldn't, but that my own personal choice just as i do not eat fish not because i disagree with it (more to do with an allergic reaction ;) !)

It's meat. People make pets out of calves, lambs, etc, so why should a horse be any different? providing it has not been transported hundreds of miles live, but has been transported ready slaughtered if it needs to be, fine.

We eat cows, pigs, chickens, etc - and even animals that are far more uncommon in England! And I'm pretty sure that someone, somewhere, keeps or has at some point kept one or more as a pet, loved them and cared for them. But they still get eaten.
Also, is it not true that the first use humans had for the horse was as a meal?
Personally, I don't see why good meat should be wasted, and what really makes a horse any different to a cow? Not a lot really, except I wouldn't want to ride a cow I guess :p
I'm against live transportation of animals to be slaughtered for meat, and inhumane methods of killing (within reason - obviously something going into the food chain cannot be put down via lethal injection...) but, if well cooked horse meat was served to me, and I liked the taste of it, and it had had a good life, died a good death etc. I would not hesitate to eat it. (:

Well you don't get a much more intelligent animal than a pig:(

People can call me soft if they like, but I definitely wouldn't knowingly eat horse meat. (Nor cat meat or dog meat). These creatures are too much my friends. I wouldn't go into a restaurant that had horse meat on the menu.
I am in the process of giving up beef, lamb and pork too.

I personally wouldn't eat it but as long as it is humanely reared and free range, the horses are travelled a short distance and killed humanely then i dont have a problem with it. If the horses were factory farmed like battery hens then i wouldnt be happy at all.

I wouldn't but I am afraid mine is a totally emotional response and not a logical one. I pay extra for free range/red tractor meat to salve my conscience. Could never go back to veal after being told about veal crates etc etc - yet, logically, bull calves are an unwanted asset from the dairy industry - which I support as I like my dairy products and I dont believe crates are used anymore. There, just shown myself to be an illogical hypocrite!
