Still going round in circles about the transport issue! What do you think of buying a newish chassis (renault or something similar) and sending it off to have a box put on it- just the basics really, to save money! How much is this likely to cost, and how much would it have kept it's value if we come to sell it on again in a few year's time (like in four years?)?

Thanks, PM me if you know of any good coachbuilders or similar, or good places to get a chassis from!

Cheers! xxx

I would be very carefull !!! is it a 3.5 ton you are thinking about or bigger??? make sure you get a firm quote, see what sort of a job they do.. and the chasis... you need to get a spec on what they can convert!!! things like wheelbase are important .its no good rushing out and buying something before you know exactly whats required

personaly if you have someone who is handy in the family then I would go with getting something part built othewise its best to buy something done and ready to use, pay a little more perhaps
but I think you will save yourself a lot of hassle in the end

Having done a similar thing but on a 7.5t chassis, I would advise against it. Yes Im happy with what I got but it did end up costing me more than I initially thought. All I can say is I know my floor etc is safe, the horse area is how I wanted it but apart from that Im now left with a wagon Im trying sell due to lack of use for a loss of over £5k in a year. I was told at the time to get the newest chassis I could afford, tilt cab etc etc which I did but if I did it again I would go for an older coachbuilt wagon which would have been a damn sight cheaper and probably less miles.
I dont think you will save much getting one built especially if you chose a reputable professional horsebox builder.

Ah eright ok then, was thinking of a 3.5 tonner- maybe won't go down that route then! Seems twice the hassle too, as have got to find a coachbuilders and a chassis! Cheers!
