I'm going on holiday for a week and see it as a perfect oportunity for my 5 year to have some schooling with my instructor who schools horses for a living. I really like her attitude to the whole process and love her riding style - very quiet yet firm and very clear with what she wants from the horse.
I've asked her to ride him at my yard as it's only 3 miles away from hers but I think she's going to suggest that I send my boy to hers.
Is it worth sending him away for a week? Would it be too stressful for such a short amount of time?
Also, how much would you expect to pay for someone to work with your horse at your yard? She will have to get him in, groom, tack up, ride, untack, sponge down and turn out every time.

I would let him go to her yard if you are happy with it . It will be fantastic for his education it will probably be cheaper as well. To come to your yard, catch, groom, ride, cool off, feed would probably cost £30/day.
My mare used to go back to the yard that broke her for my holidays or just for a tune up and settles just fine. When she had not been there for nearly 2 years and went there on the weaning of her foal she settled straight away.
If he is at her yard while you are away he has some one around more than just an hour or two in case of problems.

Mine goes everytime we go on holiday, he seem to love it and get alot out of the experiance i pay around £400 but it depends on what shes doing with him as it can vary depending on the schooling.

I used to send my old horse to my trainer if I went on holiday. She used to charge £10 livery a day, plus her fee of £35 to ride the horse. My horse was not upset by the experience, and always returned better schooled. If your trainer has to come to you, get the horse in, etc, it will probably be more expensive than if your horse goes to her.
