How much would I expect to pay to send my horse away for 2 weeks to be backed? Including the livery and training etc??
Has anybody done this or considering doing this? How was the experience and outcome for you?

I wouldn't send my horse anywhere to be backed in two weeks as this is not long enough IMO . When I sent mine away the trainer said he wouldn't take the job unless it was there 3 months because he'd want to do a good job and that was how long he felt a horse needed.

All horses learn at different speed and I think there are a lot of influences that can determine how long the horse will take.

In terms of cost I paid £1,000 per month.

There is no way anyone should be backing your horse in two weeks unless all the ground work is established and it only requires sitting on.

My 4 yr old is currently away, has been for 4 weeks now and is lunging with tack on and has been leaned over - she still won't be sat on for another couple of weeks.

I'm paying £120 per week including full livery.

Very much depends on where you are I think. I had a youngster professionally broken at a cost of £70 per week all inc. They did a marvellous job and the mare is now going beautifully showing at County level and starting workers soon.

I paid £160 per week and a good job takes at elast 6 weeks.
This price included everything except veterinary costs and shoeing.

I just got my horse home, he was away for 7 weeks and I had done all the groundwork and had sat on him myself, he just needed the time and effort putting in to actually get him going properly. It was £80 per week, they have done a BRILLIANT job with him and I could have taken him home after 4 weeks but I let him stay longer so he is working really well now and is also jumping, but he is 5 and ready for it.

mine went away for two weeks and cost me about £220. i had done all the groundwork (lungeing, longreining, leaning over and walking around sat on him) though- he just needed someone with stickability to make more progress as he was very lethal/ arial when moving off on his own without a leader and he was hacked out a little in company too.
