Sending Away to be Re-Schooled?

As some of you know, i have been having a few ridden problems with my youngster, mainly down to inconsistancy, because of which i was going to leave him till March, when we have more light to start him again on a full training programme. (he has had to have a few months off with an injury, when he came back to work, it felt like he had lost so much)

Although i can get some help from a professional at home, reschooling with lessons etc, I am seriously considering sending him away to be reschooled.

I have spoken to a professional in the area, who is really well regarded and is very good, been to see her at her yard, which is very near me, the facilites are good, she even has a round pen etc and does ground work, which he does need. She would do work with us both at w'ends and get us to whatever stage we like (depending on how long i want to leave him there etc) She can take him on the 18th Feb, therefore, depending how long he was there, we'd have him back for constant work throughout the summer.

My only worries are, unsettling him again, and bringing him back home afterwards, would he just foget what he learnt as he was out of that environment? Would be interested to hear your thoughts/experiences please

I wouldn't worry about moving him at all - and it's not re-schooling is it, just continuing his education.

Go for it, you'll both benefit.
 
Ah thank you Amy May, reassurring, I feel it would help us both to continue our education and have the confidence to do more....

....anymore experiences/opinions peeps have, would love to know?
 
Well all I can add to original post is that we have had a few horses at my yard come to be started, go home, and then come back later to continue etc. Also friend has an eventer that comes home from rider in between competitions.

Horses don't mind moving around as much as we think really. So wouldn't worry at all.
 
I have sent my horse away twice now for schooling by professionals. I have found both experiences very helpful and both times the horse has come back and been much better.
It would be even better if your horse could go for some intensive work then come home and you continue having lessons with the person. Dont worry about unsettling the horse, it usually shocks them into getting on with some work!!
 
mine went last week - went to watch her being schooled today - improvement already! if you're happy with the referencesw/trainer go for it.
