I've booked my horse in for 6 weeks training/schooling because I know my limitations! The trainer was recommended by @sbloom, I've been to his yard (unannounced from his perspective as he hadn't seen the message of when I was going to visit), spent a few hours being shown around the yard and watching him work, so all good there and am perfectly happy.

However. My horse hasn't been away from me since I bought her at 6 months old, so I'm now feeling worried/guilty about sending her away. Silly I know!

So I'm after some reassurance and happy horse success stories please!

Sounds very sensible to me and am sure she will be fine. Are you able to visit so a familiar face and you have the reassurance that they have been recommended to you.

I breed horses and I regularly send them away for breaking, schooing and/competing. So long as you have done your checks and reerences for the person you arae sending them too and that you keep an eye on progress then all should be fine. In fact I think it is good for them to learn to travel, be handled by someone else, work in strange places etc etc.

I think it's a really good idea as long as you're happy with the yard/trainer. Mine went for a few weeks and learnt so much. He settled in really well too. I continued to have lessons after and it really helped with my confidence with him. Definitely recommend.

I’ve sent my two youngsters off for training twice to the same person and one is going on sales livery in April. I was worried sick the first time they went off but when I visited they were happy, enjoying their work and looked marvellous.

Sounds like a very sensible decision, you have a personal recommendation, and I am sure that it will do your horse no end of good.

It is always worth remembering that properly trained horses, who have manners and are nice to be around, have a much higher chance of a long and happy life in nice homes. Even if you plan to keep the horse forever it is important, life can throw all sorts of things at us, but if you ever sold you would have a choice of homes for a properly trained horse.

You have nothing to feel guilty about. An experienced trainer will be used to dealing with new horses coming to the yard, and your horse will gain a lot out of her time there. Good decision, well done.

I always like to send my youngsters away for a few weeks. I think it is great experience for them to 'leave home' for a bit and join a grown up yard.
I break mine myself so they usually go away as 5yros.
I trust where I send them of course, but you still miss them and worry about them as they are your babies!
