Uugh, this is probably not helpful but when I imported my pony to Europe I had the new passport issued by the local counterpart of the BSJA.

Not quite the same thing I know because this was not a transfer of ownership. I'd be very interested to hear the answer.

I have a dutch passport which is equivalent to a Defra one. I sent a letter to the address on the stamp on the front page in the Netherlands to enquire what I should do. They sent a letter saying I should send the passport off to them and that it would be £15 for change of ownership. I sent it off thinking I might never see it again but it was returned within 10 days. I was impressed with their efficiency, better than when I registered my filly with CHAPS and that's in the UK!

Hi , both I and someone I know have konik ponies from poland . We have both been told NOT to send the passports off as we will never see them again . I have never had any trouble once I have explained . DEFRA dont have a clue and will send you to the passport agency who will in turn tell you to try DEFRA . Oh and the polish agecy have no english speakers ( I tried everything)

Sent mine to Belgium for change of ownership, did take a while to come back but did in the end, and they were good at responding to my emails.
