Hi all, I would really like hear from those of you who have sent your youngsters away for professional backing i.e. not done it yourself. Could you tell me:

1. The cost?
2. How it works?
3. Was it worth it?
4. Why did you decide to send away rather than doing it yourself?
5. Did you have to provide your own saddle or do they deal with that initially?
6. Can you recommend one in the East Sussex/Kent area?

Thanks peeps.

My friend sent her pony to Jason Webb in gouldhurst. She was having a little trouble with him ( kept broncing). He did a great job, hes got a lovely place and all the staff were great too!
It wasn't that unreasonable price wise either

I sent one of mine away for professional help,

Mine was sent away to a prof SJ Yard cos he was started badly and had become very tricky so someone that new what they were doing was required. The only thing I would say is that he was backed and ridden only in the school without any hacking etc so he didn't get what I would call an all round education. Cost was £ 1000 per month cash. The yard had the equipment he needed.

Would I have it professionally done again yes, would I use the same person no.

£1000 doesn't sound so unreasonable, if it was a really good professional SJ yard. A lot of places in Germany cost around that price per month. And I'm not surprised to read the focus was on schooling only -- after all, I suppose the horses they get in training are meant to become showjumpers, not all-rounders.

True - however for the happy hacker and a few shows type of rider such as moi, 1000 is neither realistic or appropriate for what I want.
