Islay is 7 and a half now, and I am beginning to wonder whether she is going senile? When I take let the dogs out in the paddock Amy and Flick run arond like idiots, but Islay stays exactly where she was standing when I unclip her lead. It isnt until I call her specifically by name that she seems to 'come to' and races up to me? I have to do this several times as we walk down to get Bob in.

I remember Isobel (my first whippet when I was 17) and Jura greyhound both going like this, but they were both a bit older?

On our usual walks it isnt an issue - unless Islay sees a cat/rabbit/squirrel she is almost always trotting at my heels, or she follows one of the other two.

I cannot bear to have another old dog so soon :(:(:(

Can't give you a proper answer CR, but people can get premature senility so I suppose it could be possible in dogs too. How old do greyhounds get?
If that's her only problem though I would just keep an eye on her and enjoy all the good bits.

Also there's nowt wrong with an old 'un!! At least that's what hubby keeps telling me. :D

Ah well that is the question Mattilda - people vary wildly in what they say a 'good age' for a greyhound is? I have had mine live until 11, and I felt robbed when they were PTS as my whippets went onto 14 and 15 respectively?

She is incredibly fit and healthy in every other way (other than having no teeth left ) so fingers crossed she will go on for many years yet :):):):)
