Is the pony shod or barefoot? If barefoot, you can use Keratex hoof hardener on soles, but strictly not on the walls, and obviously not on the frog. I don't know about a shod horse because they will have false sole that is meant to exfoliate, whereas a barefoot horse will have naturally worn away false sole, which is why you can use Keratex - this is advice from my Equine Podiatrist.
