Hi
I have a lovely old gent who I can do almost anything to except.......clean his sheath. He turns into the hammer horse from hell and no way will he let me anywhere near it. In all the 17 years I've had him this I've only managed to clean it under sedation. As he has his fair share of injuries and treatments that required sedation as well as the odd dentist visit, this was not as infrequent as it might sound. Even then under sedation it was a struggle and even the vet couldn't do it (while he was sedated!).
So having once been advised to squirt it with baby oil this has been our method in between him being knocked out. Problem is he is now wise to this and I simply cannot seem to co-ordinate having the baby oil to hand when "it" appears. I am seriously ashamed at the state of "it" it looks disgusting but as his age (23) I really don't want to knock him out unless I absolutely have to. He goes out like a light when sedated (one memorable time I was told he hadn't had enough sedation to put a cat to sleep and yet I was struggling to keep him on his feet).
I have seriously tried to get him used to the idea but he simply won't have it.
Does anyone else have this problem? What else can I try?
