Does anyone know of someone who comes out to euthanaise a horse and take them away same day in West Wales? There was one person that was mentioned as very compassionate a lot, for west country I believe, I can't recall who... But someone like that in my area? I'm looking into options and logistics as I'm going to have to make that choice soon, and would like things done as neatly as possible rather than having to hide him and wait for collection. Thank you

There is Douglas Bros in Lampeter, they do a collection and I think they pts, you would have to check as I've only had collection by them after my vet pts.

I second Oakfield Equine. They came and collected my mare after the vet had been, and were absolutely lovely when I called to book it too. I’d organised it myself as the ones our vet usually used could not collect same day. Sending best wishes x

Vets will usually be able to organise collection for you - either in advance or as an emergency. IME in advance we waited about half an hour and in an emergency we waited a couple of hours. Both times I was very grateful not to have to be the one ringing round to organise, it was just one less thing to worry about and they had a list of people they could try for availability.

Oh that is good to know, thank you.

I would speak to your vet. I organised one by vet and the collection lorry waited around the corner at the appointed time, until the deed was done, I'd said my goodbyes etc. He'd said he would wait around the corner until someone came to get him.

As it happened, a local horse got stuck in a ditch and was in danger of drowning. The vet, Mr Red and I went to help. By the time we got back, my horse had been collected.

If cost is an issue find your local Fallen Stock company - they can usually do both the deed and take away or just take away - ours are very friendly & professional.
This is more what I was looking at having done, not for cost, just because he's had a gutsful of vets and needles, and is becoming awkward to handle when they are around. I rather not have to coerce him into standing for a needle to be placed for it to be honest. It seems Oakfield Equine will do the euthanasia and collection, so I'll ask them if I'm not too far. Thank you for replying

Different area but this is the type of person I turned to last.
He was totally respectful, on time, quiet and kind.
It was fast and I was very pleased to have done it that way.
