I handed my notice in at the yard this week, since then I've been sent to Coventry no-one is speaking to me and people who are usually at the yard when I'm there are either coming earlier or later. I keep being watched everywhere I go. FFS grow up you didn't care less what I did as long as I kept paying the rent ( which I still am until I leave) :D:D:D:D:D:D

Good grief, sorry to read that.
Sounds like you are well rid!

We are here for you, always happy to chat stuff over!

DappleDown Thank you , I have broad shoulders and can handle it just find it really pathetic the change in peoples attitude towards you just cos your leaving.

What is your notice period?
Sounds very petty. At least you know you have made the right decision.

Ive recently experienced similar. Tbf everyone was fine with me until I left, then I got a phone call off a close friend saying someone I thought was a good friend was bad mouthing me to others. Then 2 more good friends told me the same and another yard friend became very distant. People I got on with stopped liking things I put on Facebook, we all used to like each others things and have a bit of banter.
It did hurt at the time and the best of it, the so called friend who was calling me to everyone kept ringing me and trying to carry on as normal. I did think about confronting her but that meant potentially dropping others in it, so I decided to keep her at a distance and just get on with it. Life is too short to bear grudges but at the time it did hurt. The daft thing is over the years Ive gone out of my way to help this person, she was more than a horse friend or so I thought, more fool me lol.
Hope everything goes well with your move, its so blooming pathetic how people can be.

I've recently moved yards & was shunned by other liveries. I hadn't even been there that long (winter turn out was not as advertised ...!). I was geniunely asked what the yard I was moving to had that they didn't ... err, that would be the turn out you advertised!

People are a bit odd at times - try not to take it personally. Hope the rest of your notice period goes smoothly :)

total losers the lot of em! just carry on you are probably doing what they want to but have not got the guts-its a free country and you can leave/start anytime you wish to!

you do not need people like that in your life-just move and carry on enjoying your horse-you have done nothing wrong ok!

How very odd and childish. I've remained friends with people from several different yards I've been at; I guess they're just more secure and adult. I hope you meet similar people at your new yard.

Hmm... I used to have a printed tee shirt that read:- "The more people I meet - the more I love my horse." Life - and I've lived quite a lot of mine - has reinforced that sentiment! Most folk I've met in livery yards could be grouped neatly under the heading of "A complete Shower of Bastewards" ( I loved Father Ted!) Yard owners are largely off their heads in massive ego trips, making up stupid rules and only telling their favourites about them! And this theme of bickering and malfeascence spreads among the liveries - who are, let's face it - mainly women. I was largely immune to their worst excesses but was frequently appalled by how they treated each other - seemingly good friendships disolved into tears at the drop of a hat.

Personally, I've always forgiven trespasses against me - but I've always remembered the Barsteward's name!

the latest is its rentday, I do not get paid until last day of month and I have been overpaying every month to cover the shortfall in days (rent due every 4 weeks) paid once a month, was told this morning if the rent isn't in the bank by lunchtime then I have to leave tomorrow. BYEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

The worst experience leaving a yard was when I raised a concern about the welfare of my horse with the yard manager. It was very strange but all hell broke loose! I was immediately scapegoated and given notice at which point the staff and liveries shunned me. On my last day I turned up at the yard to get my horse shod then ready for transport. I found another horse in his stable (I wouldn't mind but I had paid for that stable!) with my horse left in a sweltering turn out paddock with no shade and with a cut hind leg which had been ignored by staff. The yard farrier was also there that day so as per normal I had put the horse on the farrier list earlier that week and left a cheque. But the farrier refused to do my horse citing 'not enough time'. It was awful. So you have all my sympathy! Good thing is that not all yards are like that and I had much more pleasant experiences from that point onwards.

I know this isn't an excuse for such silly, hurtful behaviour its just my guess at why the liveries are behaving this way. I guess they are upset you are leaving and maybe thought that you wouldn't want to leave them, although their upset is coming over all wrong that's for sure. I would actually take it as a slight compliment because they are obviously not happy you are going but just showing it very badly. You are going to be missed OP, if they didn't feel this way about you they would all be in happy, smiley moods and glad to see the back of you.

how are things? are you still there after rent day fiasco?

If I had all the money I'd lost in overpaid rent because I was made to feel so uncomfortable that I left early, I could buy my own livery yard :) I feel your pain.

If this is the way the yard is run, could it be that the other liveries are nervous of being seen to talk to you in case they receive repercussions too? Not an excuse for them, it's always possible to sidle up when nobody's looking and whisper that you're sorry they are leaving, but just a thought.....

Sunshine100 I moved yesterday lost £108 in overpaid rent but just glad to off the yard.

Enjoy your new yard sounds as if you had a lucky escape, this entire thread has surprised me as I never knew people could be so vindictive when others are leaving. £108 is quite a lot of money to pay for your freedom to leave

Your story sounds plain awful with even the farrier becoming involved is crazy, I would of been tempted when I saw another horse in the stable you were paying for to pass a comment like *I hope you cleaned and disinfected that stable really well as my horse is showing signs of ringworm, have a nice day!*
