I have a horse i think suffers from this at my yard - he will be out in the field and will start paceing at aroudn 2pm but bring him in then he will pace his stable - he is better on my top fields which are next to the yard

Anyone any idea how to cure this or if you can ??

My mare gets it but mainly in the stable, it's the trigger for her weaving and box walking. I can put her in the stable, groom etc and mess about and she's fine, as soon as I walk out the stable she kicks off.

The only thing I could suggest is bring the horse is when he wants in? Or would he be on his own on the yard? Sorry not much help, if anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them as my girl is a nightmare and I've tried so many things already

so i bring him in = HE WON !!! but you put him in the stable and it does the same

My worry is because of all this stressing he loses weight so easily so what will happen in the winter !!

personally for yours i would get her a stable mirror x

Is he young ? my warmblood used to create at 2.00pm everyday and churn the field up if he wasn't brought in and I found out it was cos that was his routine at his trainers yard. If he was brought in he then created again in the stable cos he thought his friends should also be in.

He actually grew out of it as he aged and his routine changed.

nope its 14yo - I am at my wits end i think !!

Ive brought it in - goes mad

Ive left it out - hoping it learns i wont bring it in till it doesnt do it (worked after 2 days then reverted back)

Tried feeding it in the field day and night hoping it will associate the field with food and not its stable

banned all treats being fed to it

Changed its routine to try and baffle it

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

out in a small group of 4 horses with another 3 paddocks surrounding it with other small herds in !!!

One of my horses field walks if I restrict her grazing (she can get tubby)
It is so annoying as she wears a track down. It is now 3" lower than the rest of the field

She seems to do it on one particular side and walks next to the fence with her neck bent over the fence, turns round at the end and comes back down.
At least she is flexing both sides I suppose!
Anyway, I had a clever invention yesterday, I put some 6' fence posts at random spaces in her track and it has stopped her! (She never has been too good with poles!)
She tried to do it but had to keep negotiating the poles so got fed up after about 5 mins.

The behaviour is catching, my other horse who is 19 I have owned since she was 5 never did it until I bought this other mare.
She is wonderful in nearly every other way so I put up with it but I wouldnt be too pleased if it wasnt my horse ruining my paddocks.

see i could do that and it might work but one he isnt mine and 2 i cant do it to every field on my yard - thanks for the idea though x

maybe ill get some cones and try x

I have only put a few poles out and they are easily moved.
I would think that they could side swerve cones whereas the horse will have to pick its feet up and negotiate poles properly.
My mare again debated it this morning, went along the fence line once over the poles, back over half and wondered off.
I felt very smug indeed!, no track being worn, no wear and tear on her joints pounding up and down the field all day.
