i have a 2 year old filly who is being baby sat by my 17 yo gelding at the moment both out at grass all year round. They are both really content and love each other dearly. i have found that they can experience seperation anxiety when parted especially the 2 year old she will start her working life next year some time so want this sorted before then. what are your experiences of this and what ways have you found best to get rid. am considering getting a pony filly.

Two horses together can be a nightmare. I used to have that when I had two. I'd definately get another if you can, so that you can take one away and still have two together. Three works well!

Hi, My TB mare is always turnout alone, but her neighbour (an 18.2 shire horse) has become her best friend over the past year. She would oocasionally get really upset in the stable if he was taken out of the year and goes completely mad if he's taken out of the field.. Over the last 4 weeks she has been visited once a week by a holocranial healer. Yes, I was really sceptical, but it has made a real difference and at only £20 a session (which lasts more than 2 hrs) is worth every penny. She doesn't like it when the shire horse is taken away but she just stands and looks then goes back to eating! The healer said she did have seperation issues but also trust issues with humans. I haven't had her long and she was a rescue case from a racing yard. Worked for my girl and I continue to learn from her. Just thought I would share this experience with you.

I have 3 horses living out together 24/7 at the moment. Two fillies and one older gelding. When I take one out of the field, the one with me is fine, but the 2 left in the field go biserk and I worry they will hurt themselves! So getting a third could solve your problem or not like in my situation! Good luck.

Honey08> thanks for that think i might pick a filly pony up from somewhere.

joeley> thanks for that. i bred this filly she is like a big dog to be honest and would get in my car with me if she could dont think there are any human trust issues theres just a big attachment to my other horse. But thanks for sharing your expereince and glad it is working for you.

petite-girle> oh dear would hate for them all 3 to get so attached! how do you cope with that? how old are your fillys?

Both the fillies are 17 months old and my gelding is a 3 year old. Maybe it's to do with them all being young, have some hope of them growing out of it!
The 2 left in the field are out of sight when I take one onto the yard so I just ignore them to be honest! It's very annoying though, and I wouldn't dare leave one in the field alone with how they behave when there's 2! They're probably jump or go through the fence!!

Completely sympathise with your situation. My TB has a cronic case of separation anx. up until now we have muddled around and managed it- for example- not leaving her tied on her own, not bringing her in last, stabling her with a view of the whole yard. She recently sustained a pretty nasty splint fracture (kicked by her beloved field mate) and has had to be on box rest. Never ideal, but i figured her field mate did the crime she could do the time! and effectively babysit her in the next door stable for 6 weeks. More mucking out for me, but anything for an easy life. My plan was to turn her field mate out on the weekends and bring in one of my youngsters to babysit- shift work! Heaven above i will not be making that mistake again. My injured mare near on mounted the door, throwing an absolute wobbler. On cue the vet arrived to re-dress her- in perfect timing to see her clear the stable door. Unbelievable.

I must add, she is fine to hack alone/ travel alone and came to me with these issues and i rather naively thought i could over come them.

im fresh oiut of idea's as to how to help her, so if anyone has any suggestions, im all ears!!
