have a new gelding, and the mare has become very attactched after two days gallopig around the field and calling him etc. and he panics in the stable when taken away from her however this could be because of new surroundings.
do you think they should be in seperae fields, who this help?
we need to take gelding out the field without the mare as the mare cannot be ridden.

Could you bring them both in together when you ride? Would the mare be happier to be left on her own in the box with some hay? Or would she just box walk?
A lot of people will tell you to get a companion for the horse left behind, but that's not always practical or desirable is it?!
Alternatively could you spend a bit of time taking him out of the field, walking him round the block out of sight, maybe tying him up for a quick groom, then putting him back in with her, keep repeating and build up the time... idea being that they get used to being alone but know the other one is always going to come back.
I think separate fields would be a good idea too.
