We all have the winter blues at sometime. I get ready to ride next day and it's peeing down or so thick with fog your cann't see where you are going. Usually the day I decide to ride the next day is warm and sunny. Sods Law

this may sound odd.. but i often get this, and i found just gritting your teeth and pushing yourself to get on with it works for me, i find driving myself to just get on and go seems to work.. once i'm on i forget about it all! x

I have depression, not SAD syndrome, but I have had periods where I've had huge problems with motivation to ride, I am always just so tired

My GP encouraged me to go and ride however much I didnt feel like it, as the exercise makes your brain release happy endorphins

He is absolutely right, I am really tired every time I come home from work, but I dont stop at all, I get changed, get out there and drag the horse in from the field, tack up and GO before I can think twice about it

Pretty much straight away I feel brilliant and really enjoy it

I dont get S A D but I do find my moods are up and down quite badly mines an age and hormone thing but I am better on Sunny Days. I get really bad anxiety attacks over the most stuoid things.

Diet plays a huge part as I eat enough salad for a stampede of rabbits in the summer so now I am trying to eat tons of fresh veg.

Take vitamin D. It is completely non-toxic and totally safe. Most British people are short of vitamin D in winter as we can only make it in our skin in daylight, preferably sunshine .

It works wonders for my husband. you will know within 24 hours whether it has worked for you or not.

Goodluck, SAD is a horrible thing to suffer from.

By the time I get home from work it is 7pm by the time I get to the yard and I'm usually the only one there and sometimes motivating myself to ride, so I set myself goals to get me into gear! Maybe I'll enter a comp if I can bag a lift, or at the moment I am working on getting George fitter / leaner, so I am doing timed trotting / cantering sessions in the school at the moment (not sure who is more knackered!)
