Im at a yard with nil facilities, there are rabbit holes in the fields. There is no where to school or lunge its absolutely rubbish. I had to leave last yard due to nutty YO and to be honest Ive had enough of livery yards. There arent any decent ones around here. Ive had enough of horses or yards to be precise. Dont know what to do now.

oh hun its so pants when you are unhappy at a yard

To be honest I once travelled a lot further than I normally would to get the right yard

Then I found one nearer that despite being around the area for ages I just did not know was there

Keep looking you maybe surprised

hugs

Rabbits do live in the country and I guess you knew there was no schooling facilities when you moved there ?

The answer is buy your own place or move yards.

Knowing exactly how the op feels, this is exactly what i did 10 years ago, Had nothing to do with horses/yards or horse people for 4 years and came out the other side ready to get back into it, best thing I ever did.

If you really have had enough of horses and yards then yes, put your horse up for sale. You have not reported a moment's pleasure since buying him. Nutty horses, nutty YO, bitchy liveries, no fun at all! So in your case, I would say give up, sell up and try a different hobby. :)

Go to your local saddlers and put a notice up for a good livery yard with all facilities wanted, then go to your vets and look on their notice board, or ask your vet if he knows of any good livery yards that he visits, then ask your farrier for good livery yards he goes to (farriers know everything) with all the facilities that you need. Sounds as though you need to put some thought into it and plan properly and perhaps somewhere that has an instructor so you could have your confidence/enthusiasm boosted a bit.

Good luck don't give up.

I really do feel for you! after 3/4 years of on and off misery my yard has moved to a new level of bitchiness- Lucky for me its never actually been directed my way as such but thats not the point, I am tired of getting there to be pounced on by one gang to hear all about how badly *A* rode or some other trivial piece of cack!

I leave next weekend!! :-) cant wait.
I too was convinced there was nothing else round i could afford either the time or money to move to but after lots of word of mouth (in secret as i would have been the yard bitch if they found out i planned to leave) I have found somewhere i can afford and is just what i want.
Its worth a look and just speak to people. Pull over and ask that lady hacking her horse down the road where she keeps it (umm, yes i did this!)

Good luck its such a horrid situation xx

To be honest you have 1 horse, so there are always plenty of options open, but you have to put in the leg work to find what you want.
I have 15 so when i look to move yards it is a bloody ordeal finding another place

Flippin eck thats alot of horses to have at livery ! surely you'd be better off financially owning land ?

Well you can't do much when your feeling low, so try to think about the positives for the moment, for example.... I duno, can you ride out? is your horse sound? is there enough grazing, is your horse happy? can you afford the things you need for your horse? if you've answered yes to all five of those your not doing too bad.

Not everybody has everything they want in a livery yard, sometimes you don't get a great choice depending on the area, have you explored every option available?

Thanks everyone. Kenzo yes to all those questions. Im going to ask my farrier whose coming down this week if he knows anywhere.

Im near Chester.

Without jumping on you - you knew what the yard was like when you moved there. You can't complain about rabbit holes/lack of schooling area etc because that was what the yard was like when you moved in UNLESS you have been there so long and it has fallen into disrepair OR you were promised that x y z would be repaired. Another one who says, ask at the local tack shops (mine of information), look at the ads for local yards and just ask around. My yard is incredibly important to me. Its where I spend the second largest amount of my time after work and I want to be able to enjoy myself there. Its also the largest expense I incurr - even more than my mortgage!
