Moved my youngster 4 days ago.. Shes use to living out 24/7 but now she is living in, however is still getting turn out. She has been stabled for a few weeks at my old yard and was happy to be inside, in fact shes happiest where ever other horses are.

She was in for 2 full days to get use to being around others and her surroundings, she is now going out through the day but i'm building it up slightly, yesterday she was out about 2 hours, today a bit longer, i will leave her out all day Wednesday depending when other horses are turned out as not many are through winter.

Anyway, getting to the point.. her stable has been VERY wet. To begin with I thought it was just due to her throwing her water bucket around at night. However, I noticed yesterday she has extremely bad diarrhea, which explains the empty water bucket and the wet bed..

She has never had colic or laminitis or been seriously ill in any way. She doesn't have worms either.

Personally i think it is due to the massive change in environment, however opinions are greatly appreciated! Also, if anyone knows of anyway of making her better faster that would also be appreciated!

I used to give my old mare pink powder , available in the local tack shops, if she got stressy but I would have a chat with the vets aswell.

When I have new horses coming to me, or mine are being shipped to someone else, I always give probiotics a few days before they leave and for a week after they arrive. Same with horses coming here, I ask the seller to give them prior to the travel. Mine often travel very long distances but I think it's still wise to give probiotics even if just moving to a new location. Did you take hay and feed from the previous place so that you could do a gradual wean over to the new hay and feed?

She's acting completely normal which baffels me abit, but I will definetly get the vet out to her. Yes she's on the same hay and feed. Took lots from the old yard so we're stocked up for atpeast 3 weeks!

I would say if she is eating and drinking normally and not behaving out of character then give her a few days before vet, try Yea Sacc as it won't harm if it doesn't help. Its probably just the stress of the move and a change in grass quality.

Back in December when the horses at the farm all had to come in due to bad weather after living out 24/7 ALL of the horses without exception had stomach upsets.

It's to be expected and I always have mint, yea sacc and sloppy feeds to hand if I know a big sudden change in diet is upcoming.

If the poos are just sloppy and there is no sign of colic, then just monitor the situation regularly. The stools should return to a more normal consistency after a few days.

Sadly, this is when horses are most likely to have colic. If theres any sign, then obviously a vet must be called immediately.
