I'm doing novice 28 today. It has a 3 loop serpentine

Looking at the diagram I think I normally do too many straight strides and turn too sharply. So how many should you aim for on average 15h cob. Or indeed is there another way to work it out?

I ride it as if the loops are 1/2 circles then go straight across the centre before starting to ride another 1/2 circle, you want to be very straight for a fair few strides in order to show clearly the bend, straight, new bend that the judges are looking for but not so many that you are riding more of a corner than a 1/2 circle, the turns should be smooth I am not sure how you are riding it if you turn sharply but hope this helps and makes sense.

In a 20 x 40 you should leave the track half way between the markers, cross in a straight line before turning back and repeating on the opposite side. So between M and B to between E and H; then leaving between K & E to between B and F if on a right hand loop - other way around for left. Each loop to be of equal size. I believe it is supposed to be a demonstration of precision because you don't use the markers exactly.

Be positive posted as I was typing - Like the half circle approach. good to get the definition.
