Today we focus on lateral work in trot tomorrow will be lateral work in canter. Leg yields shoulder in etc.
For those that have not been following the progress the rider is not forcing his head BTV he puts his head in this position as an evasion.

I've had a flick through todays video- not watched all of it as short of time, I havent watched her comments either...
My thoughts! I liked the leg yield work - it got better and better through the session. I'd like to see her in future varying the angle more, so riding very easy shallow LY and then some with a greater angle to open his shoulders. I sometimes ride the LY almost horizontally across when schooling- but obviously need to work up to that!

Shoulder-in, I thought this was a big improvement on what I remember from before! It looks relatively easy to get the angle and she rides very correctly eg not too much neck bend... On the right rein there were moments when I thought he was struggling to engage his right hind, you can see the occasional hop step and then he canters. I think this shows a lack of strength and hopefully will improve with more work! On the left rein I thought he looked happier to engage the inside hind but often ran on a bit and was a little faster than I would have liked. Having said that I would prefer that than him dying and losing all energy.

I think that it would be nice to see a better transition out of the SI on the L rein, she rides a lovely transition in but sometimes I felt he sort of fell out and she lost the engagement she had gained from the movement. But this might have been shown better in some of the bits I skipped through!

All in all I think you should be pleased, he looks relaxed and has a good attitude to the work...

Was she pleased? Sorry for the essay- you can tell I've been picked to pieces by my trainer today can't you!

She was pleased as was I. She thinks that he is capable of some harder works. When you have time do have a listen to her comments. I am sure that as he progresses she will increase & vary the angles and allow him to open his shoulders. Her plan is to do the same work again tomorrow however in canter.
All in all I am happy with the last two days work and I can see how the last months work is now starting to come together. His shape is changing nicely as well at the moment.

As the video pregessed he looked more relaxed and worked better over his back.

Just out of interest how do you keep him so clean? I've got a grey and when I got to the yard today she was covered in dry mud on one side and stable stains on the other. I can feel a bath coming on for her at weekend.

That was another good session.
The lateral work is great for him .
And the connact and connection is getting better all the time .
Looking forward to seeing the canter work.
