Am I the only one that thinks it's a horrendous idea??
(Unless you've got millions in the bank to afford it)

I've seen a couple of people set up little "rescue" centres on Facebook. One of which that really stands out is 17 year old who is starting one up where she wants to take in all the projects and problem horses and ponies to "help" them as she had previously broken in a unhandled pony before, so I presume she now thinks she can ride anything... Her little blog page states she will take them on for free or little money, then break them in to sell them on to perfect homes.

I don't know if it's just me, but a lot of people I know are supporting her and are saying what a wonderful thing she is doing, but I think it is incredibly stupid thing to do.

****Rant over!!****

Ignorance is bliss! But I also think its very stupid, unless as you say, you have a few thousand in the bank, your own/ a very understanding landlord and all the time in the world..

At 17?? Surely the only people who should open centres in this current climate are those with enough sense not to want to...

We rescued 7 horses from a serious state, several thousands of pounds later only 2 were rehomed successfully. 4 were put to sleep within 4 days of arriving and 1 was put down after 6 weeks.

I'm glad we did it, even the ones that were pts had a few days of food and comfort. They were destined for Europe I expect so god knows where they would of ended up.

Wouldn't do it again.

I have always said this is something i would do if I won the lottery (or, more specifically a rollover euromillions!). I would buy a largish estate with a good lot of land and would take on horses, dogs and whatever really! Think you'd still needs some ways to fund it long term but if you were clever enough with the finances I think it could be done. I am talking a £60million + win though! :)
I would be one of those going to the pound picking up the dogs on 'death row'.I would probably end up being one of those sad, lonely 'eccentric' old women mind just surrounded by a load of old crock animals! :D
