Settle a argument for me please

Buds mum - how do I think I'm right..?

Said already twice my friend was right, that I would not sponge him instead and I'm away to buy the bucas rug

What do you want - blood..???

;-)

Bucas rug def the way to go IMO - the hot shower idea is great, and towel or stand under lamps (if you're lucky enough to have some?) then the bucks and you should be fine. I bought one for my now dead mare who was very prone to rain scald - she need hd am issue with it. Bought a bigger one for my new mare and it's too darn big !!!

Yes that's was why I ASSUMED is was ok - never said it was ok

Hence why I asked other views..??? If I thought it was on I'd not of asked and just continued doing

Shysmum - there are a lot if odd people in this world..!!! Keeps life interesting.

Thanks racergirl , on the price hunt now for one.

We have the hot shower but no lamps, though might tap my yard owner up for installing some - think she will tell me to sling my hook.

Non helpful comments - ignore user button - great invention :-)

Bit confused by question. But me personally would never rug my horse straight after bath/hosing. I would put sweat rug/cooler fleece or similar first. Once dry put a rug on,

Forgot to say - only time a stable rug has ever gone on a wet horse in my racing years was over a sweat rug and upsidown so the outside was nearest the horse. Horse stays warm while it drys and inside of the rug stays dry - bingobango ;)

I wouldnt rug at all. I just remember shoving straw over them if they were sweaty to dry off(in the good old days) but hey I am completely out of touch with all the rug mallarchy. I usually have hairy monsters. But I dont think I would rug if they are in a stable but then I probably wouldnt hot shower them(thats sounds right posh, would be worried they would catch a chill). When you think most sports people use icy cold to stop injury etc.

Um hot horse shower(I mis read it thinking it was for the owner to begin with).

Hot horse shower. Whatever next......looks at the hairy wet dog!

I would always put a coolr or fleece on a wet or damp horse until dry, then replace with stable rug.
However I have to ask...does no one walk off a sweaty horse until dry any more? I only sponge off if they have got really really horribly sweaty, and even then I'm more likely to put a cooler on and walk off until dry than put away in a stable? I was always taught this through pony club (we are talking thirty years ago though 😳)

I don't ever see anyone doing it at been at a number of large yards, yes walk about as soon as finished riding but not once saddle etc been removed. Not at yards i have been at. My father used to make me do it as a child with my ponies though. That's was the days before hot showers and warm cozy rugs ;-)

Sorry posted that too early...

There just seems to be an obsession with hosing down rather than walking off which I think is a healthier way of cooling down a sweaty horse, then brush them off, simples ;) it doesn't take that much longer to walk them off!

Would hot towel off instead as removes sweat yet kind to coat. Use a winter slosh wash too sometimes.

Am amazed at how many people do leave a horse soaked through and the rug to 'dry' on the horse...... We have spares for everyone ( ok 4 horses) but each one has a spare light, med and heavy.

Agree decent cooler or Therematex . Never just the stable rug. Would as uncomfy as dry clothes and soaking coat

If you just put a stable rug on a wet horse, they will stay wet for hours. They aren't wicking, and will just stay wet and heavy on the horse. I'd be putting a fleece on the sweaty horse, and letting them dry themselves.

Yes that was the rule I remember and I did use to do it on sweaty days get off, loosen girth etc and walk the last half mile home to cool down(horse not me). Straw on back and put in stable until cooled off. I cannot see a hot shower being good for any horse!

Hmmm that was my reply to the no turnout thread .... and actually it's not odd this girl is a regular poster just asking a question.

I reckon she will have learnt her lesson tho. Never ask a question in NL if you want to live to ask another one another day:rolleyes:

Could be worse tho ludo, if you'd posted a vid of the horse you'd now know it had kissing spines, was lame, needed micronised linseed urgently and that you had the bridle on upside down and were sitting backwards :p Oh and if you had no whip you'd nearly died. :D

OP, did you not stay around on the SJ yard to see someone go to check each horse and change the rug?

I doubt very much that all the staff rushed off home as soon as the rugs were on.

Yes FW lesson learnt..!!

How to use ignore user :-)

Wish I'd found that long ago now I won't even see the guff people I don't care for write - yipppeeee
Ha ha

Yes they did pearls - no rugs were changed , that I'm sure of, I was often last to leave the yard due to my work and the time I arrived.

Anyway nae a issue no more, I'm now in possession of a bucus rug to solve all my terrible sins I've been commiting , so nae really giving a chuff now. Problem solved ;-)

Is the bucas rug like a thermatex? If so, I would change the rug to a dry stable rug after your horse has dried off. I wouldn't leave my horse in it all night.
