Settling new horse in and fencing

Hi! My horse is coming home in a month & I'd like some questions answered to settle my nerves!

We are on DIY and he is coming from living out (but previously stabled well), how long should I wait at the yard watching him when I unload him into his field? I will be there for a couple of hours to make sure he's settling/grazing and then come back in the evening to bring him in and wait another hour, does this seem ok? It's been years since I was on DIY!

He's coming from not a lot of grass to a good amount, should I make a smaller paddock for the first week or so? Or would you not bother?

Congratulations on your new horse!! Will he be on individual turnout or group? I personally wouldn't bother with smaller area unless he has any health issues with grass. It will get poached quickly if the ground is wet.
