I bought my new pony home yesterday, turned him out on his own in a field next to my three liveries so he could meet his new friends over the fence. He was still quite unsettled come evening so left him turned out all night so I could keep an eye on him out the bedroom window. He's been out all day today, took him for a walk round the school, he was very spooky but thought it would be expected as it was very windy and he's in a strange place. I wantbingeing him in off the grass tonight as he's very overweight, but when I stabled him he got really panicky and tried to get over the door. I shut the top door and left him for about an hour to see if he would settle. When I went back to check him he was still very agitated, sweaty and tried to come over the door again. So I turned him back out. And now don't know what to do? I spoke to his old owner and she said he stabled fine there. The other horses all came in tonight top so he wasn't leaving them behind. Do you think it's just because he's not settled in properly yet?

I'd leave him out for at least a few days. I'd imagine he's just stressing cos he's totally confused!!

Then id bring him into his box for a feed or wwhatever during the day for a little bit, then extend it to night times.

He'll settle xxx
