Several horses found dead in Aberdeenshire

There is word these people may not be charged because they handed the horses over and they were not siezed. god I hope they do not get off with this. Environmental health will get them for the dead bodies but the severe neglect and cruelty needs to be addressed and dealt with.

[ QUOTE ]
They have more powers than they used to have. This person has threatened the welfare societies with a gun before now. They have been trying to get her for years. Unless a member of the public alerts them to a situation, how are they going to know what is going on? I know of someone, a member of the public, who also has horses, who knew about this situation quite some time ago and did NOTHING. ! We should all stick our heads above the parapet and report cruelty and neglect, if we know of it, instead of looking the other way.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just curious as to how you know this?

I think what has happened to these ponies is just terrible and the former owners behaviour is totally inexcusable.and a pat on the back to whoever it was who complained and got these animals the help they so desperately needed.

I read the report etc and it states quite clearly that the field officer in charge told the owners that no action would be taken against them if they turned the ponies over to the WHW..what sort of message does that send out if as soon as the ponies are loaded, the field officer goes against his word?. Priority here is the ponies were removed and are now safe....a few quid fine wouldn't make much difference to these sorts of people anyway.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, I suppose you would like to know, but this information cannot be divulged by myself. It is common knowledge in the area where Pritchards live. It would not be difficult for you to find out yourself. Why are you so curious anyway ?

the fine isn't the point, a prison sentence and a lifetime ban is.

I absolutely don't agree with just getting the animals signed over and leaving them free to get more and make them suffer.

Same with the Jamie Gray one, no way if everything was that bad, should the RSPCA have offered to drop the charges in return for getting the horses. It has to be all or nothing.

Confiscate, prosecute, ban. Not go easy if you take the animals away and leave them to do it again.

The field officer in charge gave his word....doesn't that count for anything?.He said no prosecution in order to secure the ponies...so the owners gave them up....and if he hadn't volunteered no further legal action, would the owners have given up so easily?

Maybe somebody with a legal background could know if his words would have had a court case thrown out anyway?

I didn't read anywhere that Jamie Gray went to prison either?.nor got a lifetime ban.I may have missed something here.

Jamie Grey hasn't been sentenced yet. Found guilty yes, but not sentenced. Imminent though.

I'm glad he (JG) wouldn't surrender the animals - rather than trade off the charges. I want him dealt with properly as an example, not let off for giving in quietly, free to start again.

does anyone know if there is a collection for these horses as we (me and mother ) would like to send some of are unwanted rugs headcollars etc ??????????

Is this because you dont know this information or because you feel it's not your place to do so?

Ok, so why has nothing been done before now?

I have been trying to find out information for myself but have not been very successful yet.

Just am. My questions and answers are genuine, I'm just trying to find out more thats all.

The you tube film and report is quite shocking - those poor horses knee deep in mud trying to graze.

What I cannot understand is how these people hoped to make a living from this farm? Surely they had no clients so why breed like that?

I wonder how many more horses are being neglected right now out of sight and out of mind.

Patty, answers to your questions.

It is not my place to divulge how I know.

Something has been done before, but if the basics are there, like a puddle for drinking water and mouldy straw to eat, sometimes it is difficult to take it further. We all know that this is not how things should be done but sometimes it is the reason welfare societies have to turn away. Their powers are limited and they have to be there at the right time to see enough to do more like what has happened in this case.If a prosecution is brought, evidence needs to be 100% certain, if funds are not to be wasted.

Don't worry Patty won't divulge how she allegedly knows so much about the JG case. It's interesting she expects you to say though!

Hi, I appreciate that you may not have meant your comments to be "personal"!, however, I live in Wales on the top of a mountain and I think comments like this are unnecessary. Most places have problems and you are taking away the seriousness of the animals plight when making these comments. It is a tragedy that these things happen and more people need to do something when they see these things happening. I bet you don't know that James Gray brings his horses to the sales in Wales (Llanybyther and Brecon) to sell! Also, there is a family in the Valleys who have shops and a Stud who are very kind respectable people who happen to have the same surname as the people who have committed these terrible crimes upon the horses in Scotland. I am sure that they are very concerned and I also hope that they do not suffer because of this other family.

I think Dozzy was trying to point out that the fact that op stated people as being 'WELSH' and pointing out it did come over as a bit well unpc lets say.Bit like saying all scots are drunks etc.Scot/English/Welsh doesn't mean anything each are as capable as other of abuse suffered by these horses cos its the individual that does it not the nationality

Totally agree with you and can't blame folk just because of there nationality, I have a great experience of Welsh folk, bought a fab foal two years ago from a great guy in Cardiff and infact am so impressed I have just bought another from him which we pick up in September when he is weaned, I am English living in Scotland and am ashamed to be called either when things like this hit the headlines BUT as I said we can't blame it on which part of the country we are born in, we aren't born ignorant we just turn that way!

Sorry to come late to the thread, but I've only just heard about this news.

Just Google Mapped the farm in the story, only to find that it's VERY close to the charity H.O.R.S.E., who I would imagine will have been involved in trying very hard to have action taken in the past. They can hardly have failed to notice what has been going on virtually in their back yard, after all. They must have been incensed beyond belief that it has taken so long for action to be finally taken.
